Can You Really Make Money Selling LuLaRoe? Your Odds Are Not Good

  • Positive product reviews
  • Warranty

LuLaRoe Cons

  • Very hard to make money
  • Hidden monthly expenses
  • Stockpiling
  • Pyramid scheme in disguise?
  • Downward trend

Summary: LuLaRoe is an MLM company that sells a range of clothing, mainly for women.

It's possible for everyday people to join the company as a "consultant" and sell these clothes on to other people to earn a commission. They can also "build a team" of consultants below them to earn bonuses from the sales their team makes.

However, most people that join the company lose money because they need to sell $350 worth of clothes every month to remain active. This means most consultants end up stockpiling tons of LuLaRoe clothing and are unable to sell all of it to friends and family.

What is LuLaRoe?

LuLaRoe is a clothing Multi-Level-Marketing company.

It was founded in 2012 by DeAnne Brady and her husband. But I don't think she ever expected the explosive growth of the company to happen like it did.

The company made approximately $1 billion sales in 2016 and had over 80,000 distributors in 2017.

These distributors have been sold the dream of "becoming financially free" by selling LuLaRoe clothing.

You can learn more about how LuLaRoe could help you live the "American Dream" in the 5 minute video below...

But you're smart enough to realise this is just a sales video. And just because the company seemed to be doing well in 2016 it doesn't mean it is today! That's why you're on this page!

So you're probably still wondering...

Is LuLaRoe a pyramid scheme?

No LuLaRoe is not a pyramid scheme because it's possible for "consultants" to earn money just by selling LuLaRoe's clothing.

However, can you really make good money just by selling LuLaRoe?

Not really!

This LuLaRoe review will explain why you can't realistically make good money just by selling clothing later.

For now the question you should probably be asking is...

Is LuLaRoe just a pyramid scheme in disguise then?

What is a pyramid scheme?

A company that promises payment to its members for recruiting more people rather than selling a product or service.

These are illegal in most countries because it's impossible for every member to make money inside a pyramid scheme.

You can see why in the Wikipedia diagram below...

Most MLMs sell legit products.

However, it's very hard to make good money or just "break even" inside many MLM companies unless you recruit a lot of people.

That is still the case for LuLaRoe although they have made some changes to the company to help consultants break even quicker.

This makes LuLaRoe like a pyramid scheme in disguise. You can learn more about how to spot these companies in the 5 minute video below.

Success is rare with LuLaRoe

The truth is that success is hard to find in any MLM company.

Did you know that between 73% and 99% of all MLM representatives lose money?

MLM FTC Fact Stat

LuLaRoe's income disclaimer doesn't include any sales that their consultants made because they mainly sell them in person rather than online. This makes it hard to track their profit from each sale.

However, their 2015 income disclaimer proves that only 3% of consultants made a bonus paycheck of over $1,000 in a month.

With the expensive starting costs and monthly sales quotas to hit you can see that LuLaRoe fits into the stats above.

How does LuLaRoe Work?

LuLaRoe produces a wide range of clothing items.

But rather than spending loads on marketing and advertising each month, they get everyday people to sell the products for them.

These everyday people ("consultants") have the opportunity to make money from home by selling these products and recruiting more people into the company.

So it sounds a bit like a win-win, right?

LuLaRoe products

If you are serious about joining any MLM company, then it's crucial that you understand the products because this is what you will be selling.

LuLaRoe has hundreds of different items of clothing under the following categories:

  • Womens collection (bottoms, denim, dresses, layers, leggings, skirts, tops)
  • Denim
  • Elegant collection
  • Valentines collection
  • Mens collection

This type of MLM company is pretty rare to find. You can find hundreds of health and wellness MLMs such as Purium, Shaklee and Le-Vel Thrive or beauty MLMs such as SeneGence, Younique and Beautycounter.

There are other fashion based MLMs such as:

But you can see that LuLaRoe is quite unique in that sense.

The pricing of the clothing ranges from between $20-$65 (with the wholesale price being around 20-50% cheaper) as you can see below...

The big selling point is that their clothing is unique. You won't be able to find these items in regular retail shops on the high street.

Can you really make money selling LuLaRoe?

It seems that only the people who turn their house into a LuLaRoe store, are extroverted and focus on recruiting a lot of people make good money from selling LuLaRoe.

It is possible, but it's clear that the vast majority do not make good money selling LuLaRoe.

There are 2 ways you can make money as a LuLaRoe consultant:

  1. Sell their clothes
  2. Recruit people into your "downline" to earn bonuses from the sales they make or clothes they buy

The reason that LuLaRoe avoided being called an outright pyramid scheme in the 2017 lawsuit was because consultants can't make money by recruiting people directly.

They only make money from the sales that their recruits make.

How much does it cost to join LuLaRoe?

It costs $499 to receive 65 pieces of clothing and become a LuLaRoe consultant...

Cost to start at LuLaRoe

There has clearly been a big change to some parts of the company since the lawsuits.

It appears that it used to cost upwards of $5,000 to start!!

So $499 seems much more reasonable, but the costs do not end there...

LuLaRoe monthly cost

Consultants need to sell $350 worth of clothes every month to "remain active".

If you cannot sell this amount you will need to purchase the clothes yourself...

Can you make money selling LuLaRoe

You can see that Consumer Reports shows that is still the case today.

Many consultants are unaware of this when they join and then get pressured by their "upline" to buy the products so they remain active. Many MLM distributors tell their downline that "it will get easier" when they are really saying "please keep buying clothes as you're paying me some good commissions".

The minimum expenses you need to be prepared to pay in your first year are:

  • $499
  • $350 x 12

Total 1 year cost = $4,699

And this is before you allow for any storage space, marketing materials such as postage and packaging or anything else.

Yes, you can offset these costs by selling the products. But many distributors end up with thousands of dollars worth of products that they can't flog, as you'll find out later.

LuLaRoe compensation plan

For some reason most MLM companies make their compensation plan harder to understand than solving a Rubik's cube blindfolded.

LuLaRoe is no different.

So I will try to keep this simple...

There are 3 main ways you can get paid from LuLaRoe:

  1. Retail commissions (20-50% it depends on what you sell it for)
  2. Override bonuses (bonus for sales your downline makes 1-5%)
  3. Fast start bonus (sell $5,250 each month for your first 3 months)
is LuLaRoe a pyramid scheme?

That is a screenshot of the LuLaRoe Leadership Bonus plan. It's how you will "graduate up the ranks".

If that doesn't look like a pyramid scheme in disguise to you then I'm not sure what does!

There's no point in making this harder to understand than it needs to be. All you need to know is WHAT you need to do to make money:

  1. Sell clothes
  2. Recruit people

That's all there is to it.

The 18 minute video below goes into more detail about the compensation plan if you want to know more...

Or you can find the full 18 page LuLaRoe compensation plan here.

Is LuLaRoe a scam?

Technically LuLaRoe is not a scam.

They sell legit clothes and their consultants are paid exactly like they are told they will be.

However, there has been a lot of controversy around this MLM for being a pyramid scheme and dishonest to people joining.

But all that matters for you is if this seems legit and if it can work for you. The rest of this review will help you to decide if you can really make money selling LuLaRoe or not...

Just to be fully transparent with you, I am not a distributor myself and I do not endorse LuLaRoe in any way.

I have researched the website, testimonials and information on the Internet to get to the bottom of what this program genuinely does. This is because I have been burnt from programs just like this in the past and I want to prevent others from making the same mistakes. What I like about LuLaRoe

There are some things that I like about LuLaRoe compared to other MLMs out there...

Key Terms:

  • Pyramid Scheme – recruits members via a promise for payment from referring others to the service rather than providing a product
  • Affiliate Marketing- Connecting a customer to a product they are looking for and receiving a commission for doing so
  • Red Flag - A warning sign

#1 Focus on selling products

Now, I don't know if this has been something that they have changed since the pyramid scheme accusations.

But this is genuinely encouraging people to sell their products rather than just recruit...

LuLaRoe focus on selling

So you can only get promoted to sponsor people after you have generated a minimum of $10,000 retail sales and completed 10 "pop-up boutiques". You can also see that a pop up boutique is not as fancy as it sounds in the 3 minute video above.

However, some people will be encouraged to buy this amount of products themselves so they can start "sponsoring people" and make the "real money" quicker.

The fact is that even if you use a "pop up boutique" it doesn't guarantee any sales. After all, you need a demand for it and it won't be legal to pop these up in city centres!

#2 Positive product reviews

You can see on review sites like Sitejabber that some people genuinely do love the clothes...

LuLaRoe MLM Review- Can you really make money selling LuLaRoe
LuLaRoe MLM Review- Can you really make money selling LuLaRoe

To be honest, nearly every complaint I've seen is to do with customer service, refunds or the MLM business.

It's very rare to see people complain about the clothes.

When a company has great products that always helps them make sales! They're also not overly expensive like many other MLM products.

#3 Warranty

There is apparently a 6 month warranty for a full refund of any undamaged clothes...

is LuLaRoe a pyramid scheme?

I initially thought this is a great sign as you can at least get your money back for clothes that you can't sell...

But then I found this (and lots of similar complaints on BBB)....

What I don't like about LuLaRoe

So there are some hidden truths that are important to be aware of before diving in.

After you read this section at least you will be aware of all the red flags around the company and you can make a more informed decision if it's for you or not...

#1 Can you really make money selling LuLaRoe? Nope, here's why...

So we've already figured out that you need to allow close to $5,000 of expenses for your first year as a LuLaRoe consultant.

Well, check this out...

You can see the truth in plain sight in the 2015 LuLaRoe income disclosure

The average bonus for consultants was $424.81.

So you spend at least $4,699 on products and that's your bonus?

Yeah of course you can sell a few dresses here and there. But it is a FACT that almost every LuLaRoe consultant has a house full of clothes they need to try and sell! Watch any YouTube video and you will see rows of clothes hanging up that they need to sell.

And only 3.6% of consultants made a bonus of $1,000 in a month or more!

Could you quit your full time job from $1,000 a month?

#2 Hidden monthly expenses

This is the MAJOR red flag about the company and one I hope you are aware of by now from this LuLaRoe MLM review...

Can you make money selling LuLaRoe
Can you make money selling LuLaRoe

If you want to earn any bonuses from the sales that your "downline" make then you will need to sell $1,950 worth of clothes EVERY month!

That is insane!

I've reviewed a lot of MLM companies and I have never seen anything like this!

It now makes sense why so many consultants end up...

#3 Stockpiling- you need to become your own "LuLaRoe shop" to make money

It's not even funny how many LuLaRoe consultants I saw on YouTube that have a house like this...

LuLaRoe MLM Review- Can you really make money selling LuLaRoe

It's just bananas!

How can anyone think that it's OK to have this many clothes that they need to sell in person?

How many friends and family members do they have?!

If you were located in the center of New York, then yes of course you could sell this... but from your own home?! Really?

And these are not sales people. They are everyday people like you and me trying to sell thousands of dollars worth of products from their own home every month!

If it was done online, then at least you could use the power of the internet to help you.

#4 Is LuLaRoe a pyramid scheme in disguise?

Just watch the 3 minute news video below...

In 2017 LuLaRoe was accused of being a pyramid scheme with a class action lawsuit.

There are a lot of consultants who have lost thousands of dollars to LuLaRoe with the dream of becoming their own boss.

But this dream is simply impossible unless you recruit a lot of people.

And any MLM that requires you to recruit a lot of people to make money is a pyramid scheme in disguise. And most people lose money inside these schemes... even if you do make money you will do it at the expense of other people that you "recruit" 99% of the time.

#5 Downward trend- most people are jumping ship let alone joining!

Google Trends reveals the final nail in the coffin for LuLaRoe...

LuLaRoe MLM Review- Can you really make money selling LuLaRoe

When you compare how many people search for Farmasi each month you can see how some MLMs are building gradually over time.

If the trend is still going up for an MLM then you could potentially piggy back off this interest to sell products and recruit people. However, LuLaRoe is going the wrong way.

There are also over 440 complaints on BBB about LuLaRoe and it really seems like the company grew far too quickly for them to keep up.

It's basically a mess now!

My opinion - Can you really make money selling LuLaRoe?

What do I honestly think your chances are of making any money from LuLaRoe?...

I think LuLaRoe used to operate exactly like a pyramid scheme.

They have made serious changes but these changes mean that if you want to make money you basically have to set up a full LuLaRoe shop in your house to make any money... and then recruit people.

The whole company seems to be a mess now and there is far too much bad publicity for it to recover any time soon.

Other people will be wary about them and you will need to get other people to join if you want to make money.

How I make passive income online

MLMs are not scams or illegal. However, I'm not a fan of them because of the restrictions to the expensive products you have to promote.

Once I learnt about affiliate marketing, I realised it's a far superior business model because:

  • You can promote anything you want and truly own the business
  • You never need to sell to friends and family
  • It's completely free to start

In 2018 I had no idea what affiliate marketing was.

But I went from a full time PE teacher to making a passive income online within one year...

Summary: Amway is an MLM company that offers over 350 products in nutrition, beauty, personal care and for the home.

Most people do not make any money from Amway because of the expensive hidden costs to remain active as an Independent Business Owner (IBO).

The only way to make a good income as an IBO is to recruit a lot of people into your downline. This makes Amway very similar to a pyramid scheme in disguise and is the reason that most members lose money.

What is Amway?

Amway (America Way) is one of the oldest and most well known Multi-Level-Marketing company that exists.

It was founded in 1959 and has become the largest company on the Direct Selling News Global 100 list in 2018, with sales of $8.8 billion. They now have products in the health and wellness, beauty, personal care and home products industries.

The MLM opportunity exists in USA and other areas including:

  • Australia in 1971
  • Europe in 1973
  • Asia in 1974
  • Japan in 1979
  • Latin America in 1985
  • Thailand in 1987
  • China in 1995
  • Africa in 1997
  • India and Scandinavia in 1998
  • Ukraine in 2003
  • Russia in 2005
  • Vietnam in 2008

The MLM opportunity offers everyday people the chance to make money from home. The 3 minute video below explains more about this...

But you're smart enough to realise this is just a sales video.

So you're probably still wondering...

Is Amway a pyramid scheme?

Amway is not a pyramid scheme. They have survived numerous lawsuits that claim that Amway is a pyramid scheme (19792009, 2010, 2013)

Amway's IBOs (same thing as a distributor or consultant or associate in other MLMs) can make money by selling Amway products.

However, the only way IBOs can realistically make enough money to cover their expenses and make a decent income is by recruiting people.

This makes Amway very similar to a pyramid scheme in disguise...

What is a pyramid scheme?

A company that promises its members payment for recruiting more people rather than selling a product or service.

These are illegal in most countries because it is impossible for every member to make money.

Just see the Wikipedia diagram below to see why...

Most MLMs, like Amway, do provide legitimate products so they are not technically pyramid schemes.

However, many of them operate like a "pyramid scheme in disguise".

This is because the only way for members to make "good money" (over $1,000 a month) is by recruiting lots of people into the MLM. Amway is very similar to this because it is hard to sell enough of their expensive products to cover the costs let alone "be your own boss".

In fact, World Wide Dream Builders has been set up solely to help Amway members recruit more people.

The 5 minute video below explains this in more detail...

Success is rare with Amway

To tell you the truth... success is hard to find at any MLM company.

Did you know that between 73% and 99% of all MLM representatives lose money?

MLM FTC Fact Stat

Now, I know what you're thinking...

"But I can be the top 1%, or maybe Amway is different".

Even if you are in the top 1% and don't lose money, the fact is you will need to make your money by recruiting other people who will HAVE to lose money (and if you're like me you're probably not a fan of leading people down a rabbit hole).

The only way you can win in an MLM like Amway is by making others lose.

Amway doesn't release income disclosures anymore but this Amway review will dig into the company in more detail later on.

For now, let's figure out...

How does Amway Work?

Amway produces hundreds of products that people use everyday.

They sell these products without needing to spend huge amounts of money on advertising or marketing. Instead, they get everyday people to do this for them.

In return these everyday people (IBOs) get the chance to make commissions and bonuses from any products they can sell.

In theory, it's a win-win...

Amway products

If you are serious about joining any MLM company then you will need to understand more about their products as this is what you will be trying to sell.

There are over 350 products offered by Amway in the following categories:

  • Nutrition (vitamins, shakes, sports nutrition etc.)
  • Beauty (make up, lipstick, foundation etc.)
  • Personal care (shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser etc.)
  • Home (cookware, air treatment, cleaners etc.)
Is Amway a pyramid scheme

It's important to note that there are hundreds of other MLM companies that offer very similar products such as Isagenix, Ariix, Purium, ShakleeBellame and SeneGence to name a few.

So it's important to work out what is actually different to make each MLM stand out.

You can usually find this out by their main product...

Amway flagship products

Here's the thing at Amway...

There is no "flagship product". They have so many products that it's hard to tell what their main one is...

Can you really make money with Amway

The selling point that I see at Amway is that you can buy almost everything that you need for your home and personal use (but I think there's another company that beats them at this... #Amazon).

They currently hold over 800 patents for their products so you can be sure that a lot of research goes into making these products.

But apart from the sheer quantity of products there really isn't anything that makes Amway stand out. The truth is, you can buy very similar products, if not better quality products, elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

Check out the Amway product review 4 minute video below if you want to learn more about what they have on offer...

Can you really make money with Amway?

It's very hard to make any money with Amway. The few people that do make money as an IBO are typically very extroverted people who are good at selling and recruiting people.

The vast majority of Amway IBOs lose money due to the costs to remain active at the company.

Just like most MLMs there are 2 ways you can make money as an Amway IBO:

  1. Sell products and earn a commission (retail - wholesale price)
  2. Recruit people and earn bonuses from sales they make

This is the reason that Amway and other MLMs don't get shut down for being a pyramid scheme...

You can't earn money directly from recruiting people.

You technically only earn money from the sales or purchases that your "downline" make... but since you have to buy products just to start as an IBO you do actually make money as soon as you recruit people.

How much does it cost to join Amway?

It costs around $150 to join Amway as an IBO...

There is a $69 registration fee to get started.

It then also costs $99 for the starter kit which comes with:

  • $245 value of products
  • 10 mini catalogues
  • Basic training & marketing materials

But the costs do not stop there amigo...

Amway monthly cost

The monthly costs to "remain active" is what makes most IBOs lose money.

Just for marketing materials (envelopes, business cards, stamps etc.) and a website it can easily cost $20+ a month before anything else.

Amway has "live events and trainings" which costs more money to attend and that doesn't even take into consideration travel and accomodation for these events.

There are even things like their "inauguration bundle", which members are encouraged to purchase when they are released, which costs a crazy amount like $383!

Is Amway a pyramid scheme
Can you really make money with Amway

Then there is the monthly sales quota to be eligible to receive the bonuses and commissions from the sales your team makes. You need to generate 50 PV (around $75 of products) each month to stay active as an IBO.

And you need to accumulate 100 PV just to receive any commissions for these bonuses...

That is around $150 worth of products!

So your total costs for your first year will look like this:

  • $69
  • $99
  • $20 x 12 (marketing costs)
  • $75 x 12 (product costs)

Total minimum expenses year 1 = $1,228

There are many forums online that suggest IBO's spend over $3,000 per year at Amway... and you can see how!

Amway compensation plan

For some reason MLM companies like to make their compensation plan harder to understand than a drunk Scotsman.

And Amway takes the biscuit here! They have a 90 page compensation plan... I'm yet to come across one so hard to understand!

So I will do my best to keep this simple...

There are only 2 ways you can get paid from Amway:

  1. Immediate income (15-25% commission... retail - wholesale price)
  2. Performance bonus (3-25% bonuses from your teams sales)
Amway compensation plan

Just look at that diagram showing you how you can get paid!! Seriously... what the fiddlesticks are they going on about?!

You really don't need to worry yourself about HOW you get paid from Amway. The only think you really need to know to start is WHAT you have to do. Remember all it is:

  • Sell Amway products
  • Recruit people

And when you really understand the compensation plan you'll see that if you want to earn good money... you have to recruit people (*cough* pyramid scheme in disguise *cough*)

Check out the 9 minute video of the Amway compensation plan below if you want to be confused a bit more get your head around it more...

Or you can read the full 90 page Amway compensation plan here.

Is Amway a scam?

Amway is not technically a scam as they provide legit products and they pay their IBOs just like they say they will.

However, some people would argue that because it is a pyramid scheme in disguise then it is really just a big scam as most IBOs lose money.

At the end of the day the choice is yours and the rest of this Amway review will help you to make an informed decision...

Just to be fully transparent with you, I am not a distributor myself and I do not endorse Amway in any way.

I have researched the website, testimonials and information on the Internet to get to the bottom of what this program genuinely does. This is because I have been burnt from programs just like this in the past and I want to prevent others from making the same mistakes. What I like about Amway

There are a few things that I genuinely like about the Amway MLM...

#1 Proven history

Did you know that 1 in 3 MLM companies disappear before they reach their 10th birthday?...

Well, Amway has been in business for over 60 years!

This proves that Amway is not a scam and they are not likely to disappear overnight like many newer MLMs do.

#2 Positive product reviews

I liked that on Consumer Affairs it was possible to find genuine people that use the products like this...

Amway Review

You can tell when someone is a genuine customer and they like the products. Dawn even says she has some customer service problems so that is clearly a legit review.

However, you do also find a ton of reviews from IBOs like this...

Amway Review

If a company has legit happy customers that would use the products even though they are not trying to make money from it, that is a good sign!

If I could only find reviews like Cathic's that would be a very bad sign!

#3 Amway is well known

If you asked someone if they'd like to buy something from Amway, chances are they would have heard of it before.

That is not the case for most MLM companies. There are hundreds being created all the time and most of them are very small.

Is Amway a pyramid scheme

Amway has used some big sponsorships and marketing campaigns to get their name out there.

This means the IBOs can piggyback off of these efforts as people tend to buy from companies they have heard of before.

What I don't like about Amway

So there are some good signs that Amway is not an outright scam.

However there are some hidden truths that most IBOs find out too late after they have already joined.

This section will help to open your eyes fully to the challenges and downsides to the company...

#1 Expensive products

This is the first thing I check in any MLM I review.

It's the first signal to me that the company may be a pyramid scheme in disguise.

Check out their protein shakes prices...

Is Amway a pyramid scheme
  • Amway protein shake = $3.60 per 20g protein
  • Highly rated Amazon protein shake = $1.25 per 20g protein

Amway costs 200% more than alternatives. Now, I can almost hear your mind thinking...

"Surely Amway's products are far superior though?!"

Well I thought that too, so I checked it out...

Can you really make money with Amway

If anything you get far more protein and nutrition from the Amazon protein shakes than you would from Amway.

Plus, I saw this kind of Amway review from numerous customers...

Amway Review

#2 Hidden monthly expenses

We already discussed the monthly fees to "remain active" as an IBO.

You need to sell at least $75 worth of products every month to remain active. This is why so many customers feel "pestered" to join all the time...

Amway Review

If you can't sell enough Amway products each month you need to buy them yourself if you want to have a shot of "being your own boss" next month.

This combined with the high costs means that...

#3 Amway is a pyramid scheme in disguise

Seriously just think about it.

Why would anyone continue to pay 200%+ for something you can easily get on Amazon that you could even argue is better?

The reason is that the IBOs are the main Amway customers because they are being "encouraged" (forced) to "remain active" and buy the products from their upline. They will be told that "it will get easier" but they really mean "stay active so I can keep making money from you."

Can you really make money with Amway

Amway spent 4 years in court to survive being called an outright pyramid scheme in 1979 by the FTC

They managed to get away with it because it is possible for people to make money from selling Amway products. It doesn't seem to matter that it's pretty much impossible to make good money in this way.

They've even faced other lawsuits such as paying $25 million in fines for alleged tax fraud in 1982 and a class action lawsuit for $56 million in 2010 to settle alleged claims it operates as a "pyramid scheme"

Can you really make money with Amway

#4 Can you really make money with Amway?

No, most people cannot make money with Amway.

Just see what Amway has on their compensation plan repeatedly in small print...

Can you really make money with Amway

The average gross monthly income for IBOs was $202.

It seems like most IBOs spend over $3,000 a year meaning that "the average" IBO will lose money. When you take into account that some IBOs at the top of the company will be making hundreds of thousands a month you can see that the vast majority of Amway IBOs lose money.

Just check out the below example of profit and loss for an Amway IBO...

Can you really make money with Amway

Sure, they made $5,100 profit for the year...

But they lost $480 after they took out their expenses! And this is someone who dedicated their time to Amway, not just trying it out as a side hobby!

#5 No momentum

This is the final nail in the coffin for me.

You can see that the number of people searching for Amway has plateaued over the last few years...

Newer MLM companies like Farmasi show what momentum is like.

If you really want to do well from an MLM then using their momentum will make it much easier to recruit people and sell products.

Chances are people will be wary about Amway due to its shady history. But people that have not heard of Farmasi before may be interested in giving it a shot.

Ready to make passive income online?

In 2018 I had no idea how to make money online. I was a full time PE teacher with no marketing skills or online experience.

I fell for scams along the way but I've managed to create a growing passive income online.

If I can do it, anyone can.

My opinion - Amway MLM

Amway sells legit products that some people seem to quite like.

But what do I think your chances are of making money from the Amway MLM?...

The expensive products and high monthly costs to remain active means that the only way you'll be able to make money is by recruiting them into the MLM.

And if you need to recruit to make money, that makes the company like a pyramid scheme. And it's impossible for everyone to make money from a pyramid scheme in disguise.

That leaves your ethics and morals with a tough choice...

Should you really give Amway a shot and try to make money knowing that the people you recruit will be very likely to lose money?

How I make passive income online

MLMs are technically not scams or illegal.

MLM vs Affiliate Marketing: Which One Is Better For You?

You probably know that Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) and affiliate marketing are two of the most popular ways for people to make money online or from home.

The main reasons are that you don't need any prior experience to start either and they are both low cost in comparison to starting a more traditional bricks and mortar business.

Both "opportunities" are legit but both do come with some scam artists trying to take your money.

And if you've ever spent any time on this website before you probably know what my preference is...

I don't only think that affiliate marketing is better than MLM... I believe it's a far superior business model.

However, I'm going to throw out my own biases for this battle and I've even chatted a couple of current successful MLM member to give this a fair fight (listen to that podcast here)

That way you can make an informed decision about what suits you.

Fair? I think so!...

What is Multi-Level-Marketing?

Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) can also be called network marketing, referral marketing, pyramid selling and many "direct sales" companies are really just MLM companies.

It's a business model where anyone can join the company to get the chance to make money by selling the products.

These "distributors" (also known as consultants, representatives or associates) can also recruit more people into the company to do the same thing. The people they recruit become their "downline" and it's possible to earn bonuses and commissions from the sales this team makes.

It ends up creating a pyramid structure like this:

MLM pyramid scheme

Typically MLM companies sell some sort of product or service. The most common products are related to health and wellness or personal care... such as makeup, protein shakes, supplements, CBD oil or shampoo etc.

In theory the business model is a win-win.

The company saves money on marketing and advertising costs...

And everyday people get the opportunity to work from home.

Pros and cons of MLM

Pros

  • Possible to make money from home
  • No need to create your own product or service
  • Work in a "team"
  • Personal development opportunities

Cons

  • Products are often expensive
  • Many MLMs have a monthly sales quota
  • Start up costs can add up before you even try it out
  • Pay for additional training and education
  • You're encouraged to sell to friends and family
  • Most people lose money (92.3% of all members)
  • People make money because other people lose money in your "downline"
  • Emphasis on recruiting people

Conclusion:

MLM companies can be a legitimate way to make money from home.

There is a strong emphasis on team building and helping the people in your team.

However, this actually means that the main way to make good money is by recruiting people to earn commission from the sales they make.

MLM products are typically very expensive in comparison to alternatives on the market. To "remain active" distributors often need to sell a certain amount each month or pay for products themselves.

This means that most people end up losing money in MLM companies.

Beware of pyramid schemes in disguise

Many people think that all MLMs are pyramid schemes.

That is not the case.

However, many MLM companies do sell products to disguise the fact that the only way their members make money is by recruiting more people.

Any company that has a focus on recruiting rather than selling is very similar to a pyramid scheme, and these are totally unsustainable as you can see in the diagram below...

Pyramid scheme

Check out this 5 minute video to learn how to spot a "pyramid scheme in disguise"...

However, there are some legit MLM companies out there too. They offer reasonably priced products and there are no monthly sales quota. Unfortunately, these are actually pretty hard to find!

Just check out the 3 case studies below to see the difference between legit companies and pyramid schemes in disguise...

Case Study 1- Pyramid scheme

MLM companies like this are the worst.

The ONLY way you can make money is by recruiting people into the company.

Prosperity of Life claims to offer "personal development" training that you can attend and make money from!

Prosperity of life

In reality, they just teach you how to sell this company to other people.

There's no real products that the company produces. You can sell the "personal development events" but the whole event is really a sales gig to try and make more people join.

It's impossible for everyone to make money through this type of MLM.

Case Study 2- "Pyramid scheme in disguise"

This is probably the most common MLM company that I have seen.

Pyramid schemes in disguise typically offer stupidly expensive products (100% or more above comparisons). Then they have a monthly sales quota that their distributors have to hit to "remain active".

Le-Vel Thrive will cost you $100+ a month to stay active as a distributor.

But you can only earn 20% commission for any products that you personally sell. So people can be hundreds or thousands of dollars out of pocket before they sell anything and then only make back $10-$50 from their sale.

There's a huge emphasis on recruiting and this is the only way you can realistically make any decent money from this type of MLM. Once you recruit 2 or more people you've effectively "passed the buck" down them.

Case Study 3- Legit MLM company

Farmasi claims to be a "direct sales" company but you can earn bonuses from your downlines sales. So it still is an MLM company in my opinion.

It only costs $19.99 to join and there are no monthly sales quotas to hit.

Farmasi MLM

The makeup is good quality and affordable. Distributors also make 50% commission from any sales.

This means the company genuinely offers products that people would be happy to promote (as it's good and affordable).

There is a focus on selling the products and it's possible to make money simply from doing that without recruiting anyone.

But how much are you likely going to be able to sell in person to your friends and family? If only there was a way to use the internet to sell for you 24/7...

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is earning a commission by promoting someone else's product.

Simply put...

Sell other people's stuff.

WA Affiliate Marketing 4 step Process

It really is a win-win...

  1. Companies or individuals create a product or service and save money on their marketing costs.
  2. Affiliate marketers promote the products or services and earn a commission of the sale.

You can become an affiliate marketer right now by joining affiliate networks for free, such as:

  • Amazon
  • Click bank
  • Commission Junction
  • JV Zoo
  • Shareasale
  • Walmart

In fact, many businesses or entrepreneurs will have their own affiliate program that people can join for FREE...

So if you find products that you like, you can share your "affiliate link" with people and if they buy something through your link, you make money!

It's possible to get paid 4-90% commissions depending on the individual product.

It sounds too easy, right?

Well that is an overly simplified version and you probably won't be able to get many people to buy products like this.

But the best affiliate marketers use a website to "drive traffic" to it and promote products to earn commission.

If these websites actually help people to solve their problem, then people will buy these products.

It's possible to create these websites that bring in hundreds of thousands of visitors each month for free... and they work for you 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Pros and cons of MLM

Pros

  • Free to start
  • Promote anything you want & genuinely help people
  • Possible to build a brand
  • Use the internet to sell for you 24/7
  • No recruiting
  • No limit to what you can earn
  • Learn skills useful for any business

Cons

  • Takes time and effort to learn how to do it well
  • There are so many options it can be hard to choose your "niche"
  • You need self motivation to be successful
  • No control over the products prices or quality

Conclusion:

Affiliate marketing is a way to make money by promoting other people's stuff.

But because it's completely free to become an "affiliate marketer", many people try affiliate marketing and don't make any money.

The best affiliate marketers build a website that helps solve problems and attracts thousands of visitors every month.

This way the business grows over time.

Plus, the skills you learn from affiliate marketing can be used to help any business in the 21st century.

MLM vs Affiliate Marketing

Tonight, we are going to witness the most anticipated match in the history of online businesses for the heavyweight championship of the world!

Entering the ring wearing navy blue is...

Affiliate marketing!!

And the opposition wearing teal blue is...

MLM!!

Let's get ready to ruuuumbbbblllllle...

Round 1- Start up costs

It's claimed that you can start either business opportunity for next to nothing. In fact, the initial cost to join most MLM companies is under $100.

They do however, often recommend you buy a product pack so that you can test the products or use them as samples to sell to others.

This can set you back anything from $50-$1,000.

There are also often monthly sales figures to hit and if you don't reach that then you will need to pay for the products yourself. This is usually around $50-$200 a month.

However, it's possible to start affiliate marketing for free. Any legit affiliate marketing opportunity is free to join.

There are even ways you can build websites for free. Watch this short video to see how.

And it's possible to learn how to build an affiliate marketing business with all the training and tools you need from scratch for as little as $30 a month.

Winner- Affiliate marketing

Round 2- Choice of products

MLM companies provide certain products or services.

If you join a company you can only sell their products to people. There are often terms that state that you are only allowed to work for one MLM company at a time, especially if you're thinking about joining another one in the same industry.

These products are often very expensive and you can easily find better alternatives for a fraction of the price.

With affiliate marketing you can choose anything.

Honestly... anything!

If you have a passion about sailing you can create a website specifically to help people with sailing. If you recommend certain products or information that could someone solve a problem, then you can get paid for this over and over again.

You are complete control over what you promote.

Winner- Affiliate marketing

Round 3- Selling style

The real way that MLM distributors make good money is when they "build a team". This sounds great to many people as most people don't want to do business by themself.

But what this really means is that you need to recruit people into the MLM company.

So you're going to need to ask all your friends and family and once they reject you, you'll be taught how to put your life on social media to try and attract new unsuspecting victims.

Many MLM companies still encourage "home parties" where you invite friends over and show them how good your products are.

Affiliate marketing is all done online.

That means you provide real value to people on your website and never need to sell face to face. Some people are put off by the thought of having to write a lot.

But the beauty is that you can do this at your own pace and build your website over time... it doesn't disappear.

I used to hate writing but like anything else, it's a skill that you can improve on in time.

If your business is not on the internet then your business will be out of business- Bill Gates

Winner- Affiliate marketing

Round 4- Personal development

Most MLM companies are quite big on this.

Many of them will have live events around the world for you to attend (it does cost more money mind you!)

But if you've never been to an event like this, it can spark a fire inside you that you never knew was there.

Most MLM members encourage each other to read self development books and continue to improve.

There are events like this you can attend for affiliate marketing such as FinCon or Affiliate World Conference. However, many people try to do affiliate marketing all by themself.

Without the support it's very easy to avoid personal development or connecting with people regularly. MLM takes this round!

Winner- MLM

Round 5- Skills learnt

As already touched on, affiliate marketing can teach you crucial skills that every business needs in the 21st century.

Learning how to market online is useful for anyone.

Helping your website be found on Google (SEO), copywriting, email marketing and social media marketing are all skills that you can learn and improve, whilst building a business with affiliate marketing.

Every business in the world needs this. You can either market the skills you learn to make money from freelance work as your business grows or use these skills to build your own mega future business.

MLM companies rarely come with any training to improve these skills.

You're really only taught how to be on social media all the time to try and attract people into asking how you make money... then bam! Recruit, recruit, recruit!

Winner- Affiliate marketing

Round 6- Income potential

There are far too many people earning mega money from affiliate marketing to even know.

I have personally spoken to 5 people on the podcast who make over $1 million a year (and they were all 30 or younger and not even the real big fish of the industry).

The big reason for this is due to the previous round... they have learnt skills that they use to create a mega business.

It's possible to create a growing passive income as once you put the work in once your website can get found every single month by more and more people.

It is possible to make some great money from MLM companies. But you will always be a cog in the wheel (unless you create your own MLM company!)

The most I have seen anyone make from an income disclaimer is around $1,000,000 a year (and we're talking about millions of people that are in MLM companies).

Winner- Affiliate marketing

Final Score: MLM 1 vs 5 Affiliate Marketing

The downside to both businesses...

So this is the side that not many people will tell you about.

There are so many people out there trying to sell something or suggesting they have the answer to help you make millions of dollars overnight.

To be successful in either one of these business models is going to be hard.

It will take time and effort and you will have a LOT of setbacks along the way.

The reason I know this is because it's happened to me (and pretty much every other successful entrepreneur I've spoken to or read about... not that I'm putting myself in the same category as them, but I know I'm on the path to get there).

This is the reality...

Startups- Trough of Sorrow

And many people just get so caught up on one thing...

The truth is, it's going to take time to see the money.

Yeah you can see a little bit of success just for proof of concept.

In fact, you can go to Amazon Associates right now, get a free account and send the link to a book you know your Mom wants to buy to her.

Once she buys it you get a commission... boom!

Real Money! (it will be like $0.23 so don't go quit the day job)

But here is what actually happens...

Startup success graph

I know I haven't "made it"... in fact, I would say I'm just about coming up out of the trough.

But I have to be honest, the speed at what this scales is even frightening me!...

Make Time Online Traffic Stats

MLM vs Affiliate Marketing: who wins?

So yeah, as I already told you...

I am biased.

But hopefully you can see why now.

There are just some reasons why affiliate marketing wins by a country mile in my opinion:

  • You control the business (you are not restricted to the products you promote or what niche you choose or what you "duplicated website" looks like)
  • The skills you learn can provide you with a mega business (like never have to work another day in your life stuff)
  • You don't need to recruit people or sell to your friends and family

I know people that do well from both.

I can't say that I would be comfortable selling overpriced products to people or recruiting them knowing they are becoming another cog in the wheel.

But I know one thing for a fact...

Doing the same thing will get you the same results.

Action takers always win.

The only way you can make money from this company is by recruiting more people into it. That is the definition of a pyramid scheme, which are impossible for everyone to make money from.

What is American Bill Money?

American Bill Money is a Multi-Level-Marketing company that provide you with "leads" (addresses) and postcards for you to send to random people in the hopes they also join the program.

It was founded in 2003 by Paul Korzeniowski and is supposed to help Americans, just like you, make residual income.

You can watch the 6 minute sales video below if you haven't seen it already...

So it sort of seems possible right?

Send these postcards to people and hope at least 2 sign up then you effectively get your membership for free!

Well clearly your smart enough to be wondering...

Is American Bill Money a pyramid scheme?

Yes American Bill Money couldn't fit the definition more of a pyramid scheme if it tried...

What is a pyramid scheme?

A business model that recruits members via a promise of payment for enrolling others into the scheme, rather than supplying a service or product.

That is the exact definition you will find on Wikipedia. And that is exactly what American Bill Money does.

These are illegal in most countries because they are totally unsustainable as you can see in the diagram below...

OK yeah you only need to recruit 2 people to make your "investment" pay for itself, but the same principle applies.

It is IMPOSSIBLE for everyone in the company to make money from this system. The whole world population will never be enough to make these schemes possible.

Success is rare with American Bill Money

Even if it was possible for everyone to make money from American Bill Money, it's still really rare in any MLM company...

Between 73% and 99% of all MLM representatives lose money!

MLM FTC Fact Stat

The reason is due to the monthly costs involved and the fact that so many people don't really understand how they work until it's too late.

Once people work out they can only make money by recruiting people they tend to leave and it's eaten up a few thousand dollars!

How does American Bill Money Work?

They provide "leads" of people that may be interested in joining ABM (now why they don't chase these leads themselves is beyond me?!... oh maybe it's because they know it doesn't work!)

So instead of them spending money on stamps to send these postcards to hundreds of really old people they let you do that for them.

The hope is that another sucker signs up to the scheme and pays for your ride #livingthedream.

American Bill Money products

So here's an example of the postcards and "leads" (address labels) that will get sent to you...

Is America Bill Money a scam?

Then all you do is put a stamp on them and stick them in the postbox.

Can you see that it's not really a product, but rather a system to help the owner make more money. You'd think this would be very rare within MLMs (and it is to some extent).

But here are some other MLMs that don't offer any product at all and only focus on recruiting (*cough* pyramid schemes *cough*):

How to make money with American Bill Money MLM

You post the postcards and hope that someone else joins the company.

Fingers crossed!

How much does it cost to join American Bill Money MLM?

There are different packages you can join with.

The basic monthly package costs $125 a month and the "deluxe" monthly subscription costs $250. The deluxe edition just gives you more leads and postcards.

Is America Bill Money a scam?

You can also "save money" (aka lose more money) by paying for the 6 month or 12 month subscription which costs up to $3,300 for the deluxe yearly subscription.

American Bill Money monthly cost

So obviously if you pay monthly that is how much it will cost you.

But you also may need to factor in the price of stamps into it...

If you are sending out 300 postcards a month, that is quite a bit of extra dosh you need lying around.

American Bill Money compensation plan

So American Bill Money is kind of like an MLM structure due to the compensation plan.

But because it's very rare for me to actually stumble across outright pyramid schemes it looks a but different to most MLM companies I have reviewed before...

Is America Bill Money a scam?

You get paid 60% compensation so $75 a month if someone goes for the basic $125 plan.

However, your 3rd, 7th and 12th "recruit" gets paid to the person above you.

That would also be the case for anyone recruits that your recruits recruit (that's a lot of recruiting!)

Is American Bill Money a scam?

I genuinely have no idea how this company has lasted as long as it has.

It is clearly a pyramid scheme which as far as I'm concerned is a scam.

If you do recruit someone then I'm sure they do actually pay you the commission so it's not one of those scams that takes your money and runs away.

Just to be fully transparent with you, I am not a distributor myself and I do not endorse American Bill Money in any way.

I have researched the website, testimonials and information on the Internet to get to the bottom of what this program genuinely does. This is because I have been burnt from programs just like this in the past and I want to prevent others from making the same mistakes. What I like about American Bill Money

Funny enough even though I cannot recommend this company to anyone, there are undeniable things that it has in its favour...

Key Terms:

  • Pyramid Scheme – recruits members via a promise for payment from referring others to the service rather than providing a product
  • Affiliate Marketing- Connecting a customer to a product they are looking for and receiving a commission for doing so
  • Red Flag - A warning sign

#1 Some people make some money... but...

If you go on YouTube you will see a selection of videos just like this...

Real people getting paid!

To be honest it's one of those "get rich easy" schemes that people love the idea of. Unfortunately, the only way these people are getting money is by recruiting poor unknowing people into a pyramid scheme that will likely screw them over.

Maybe some of these people just do not understand how pyramid schemes work and are desperate for cash.

But if they do know and they're still happy to try and screw other people over to make some money then that's their choice.

#2 It's been going since 2003

I genuinely have no idea how!

It has to be only a matter of time until this company gets called out for what it really is.

It amazes me at how these companies still exist in the 2020's!

What I don't like about American Bill Money

Well there is a lot wrong with American Bill Money but hopefully this section can help to expose the truth...

#1 American Bill Money is a pyramid scheme

You can ONLY make money by recruiting more people into the company...

Is America Bill Money a scam?

The sales video even makes it clear that you need to recruit 2 people to cover your costs.

It even shows you that the way you make money is by getting more people to join the company.

You're not adding value to people, there are no skills being taught. American Bill Money is an outright pyramid scheme.

#2 It's impossible for everyone to make money

Like I said earlier, it's IMPOSSIBLE for everyone to make money in this system.

Just look at the diagram one more time...

So many people are saying it online, yet the company somehow still exists!...

It's bananas!

#3 Who are these "leads"?

So the sales video says they'll give you these "leads" each month...

Is America Bill Money a scam?

Yet there are claims that some of these leads are deceased people.

Chances are they will target old people that don't use the internet much, which makes me even more worried about how disgusting this company may actually be.

#4 Postcards in the 2020's?

This bit really confused me.

So they seem really happy about being different and using postcards like this...

Is America Bill Money a scam?

But then they mention the "annual deluxe" members get online marketing training...

Is America Bill Money a scam?

In the video directly beneath it they harp on about why direct mail does better than emails and online marketing.

They just seem to be saying anything to get your money.

Any good online marketing training actually explains what you'll be expected to do or gives you a trial/ money back guarantee...

#5 No money back guarantee

The owner seems to think the no money back guarantee is a good thing...

Any legit company or product offers a money back guarantee. It shows they have faith in their product or service and rely on providing good customer service and results.

"No refunds" only suggest that companies are after your money and hoping that people don't realise there isn't a refund policy!

#6 The owner seems to have something to hide

You can see from the above comment how he comes across.

But he is always so defensive and aggressive in his tone when he responds to people...

In his comment above he points out mistakes that are totally irrelevant.

He never once addresses the fact that his company is a pyramid scheme though.

If he does read this I genuinely would like to know how ABM is not a pyramid scheme. Or maybe he's just OK with that being the case knowing that most people will lose money.

#7 Downward trend

The final nail in the coffin for American Bill Money is that there has been a decrease in interest for it since it began.

You probably know that the most successful people in any MLM company are those that "get in early" and can use the growing popularity to help recruit more people.

When you compare it to other MLM companies like Farmasi, you can see that ABM is going the wrong way.

Ready to make passive income online?

In 2018 I had no idea how to make money online. I was a full time PE teacher with no marketing skills or online experience.

I fell for scams along the way but I've managed to create a growing passive income online.

If I can do it, anyone can.

My opinion - American Bill Money

Here's my honest opinion about American Bill Money...

If you are OK with trying to scam some other people with this pyramid scheme then of course you may be able to get one or 2 people to join and cover your costs.

But sending postcards to deceased people is not my idea of a opportunity to make money from home.

Affiliate Marketing vs MLM… From Someone That’s Tried Both w/ Christina Piccoli

You probably know that an online business is a great way to live the lifestyle that you would love.

It means you can work anywhere in the world, work anytime you want and have the potential to make money in your sleep.

A common question that people have is...

Should I start an MLM business or is affiliate marketing a better option?

Maybe you haven't even heard of one of these types of business models.

The truth is, there isn't one way that is "better" than another. But there certainly are advantages and disadvantages of any business model.

Insider Reveals What's Better... Affiliate Marketing vs MLM

Podcast Summary

So Christina is completely honest about her personal experience with both.

Here are the 5 main takeaways I took from the chat with her:

  1. MLM distributors are typically the main customers for the company because of the "monthly sales quota"
  2. MLMs are not ideal for introverted people who don't use social media very much
  3. You never need to sell anything to your friends and family with Affiliate Marketing
  4. You can promote and work on any interests with affiliate marketing rather than being tied to a certain type of product
  5. You can grow your affiliate marketing business over time and to any level you'd like

But at the end of the day taking action is far more important than spending ages considering which approach suits you.

Just by trying something out you will learn if it suits you or not.

Either business model can help you to live a life that you want, but doing the same thing over and over will guarantee you get the same results.

Chris Harrison Podcast Summary

Chris makes no excuses or false promises about it being easy to be successful inside an MLM.

He even admits that to make good income and a residual income you will have to recruit people into the company.

But if you enjoy the products and would buy them anyway, then it's not really like selling... it's just recommending things that you love.

He says that if you have the right mindset and expectations from the start, MLM companies can be a great way to design your life to look how you want it to.

At the end of the day you have two choices:

  • Repeat the same thing and expect the same results
  • Evolve, learn something new and work towards your ideal lifestyle

The choice is always yours...

Useful tips and tools mentioned in the podcast

There really was so much to take in from this podcast.

To get ALL of the wisdom and value you will have to listen to the chat. But here are some of the key tools & tricks mentioned by Debbie in the podcast...

On page SEO tips:

  • Improve your website SPEED! The best way to do that is to improve your hosting - Debbie recommends BigScoots for bigger blogs. But she also recommends Siteground or Namehero as better alternatives to Bluehost.
  • Learn more about how to improve your site speed on Debbie's new website Healthy Savvy and Wise
  • Focus on 1 or maybe 2 areas and write a lot of content for that (as in 50+ posts) i.e. Debbie focuses on writing about flooring
  • Check your old content. Does it help Google understand your main topic? Consider "de-indexing" it using the Yoast plugin. Check out this post to help with that.

Off page SEO tips:

  • Use Help a Reporter to get good backlinks. You may need to respond to a lot to get any good backlinks but it's an easy way for anyone to get links with a bit of "elbow grease".
  • Guest post on other bloggers sites to get backlinks. Join great blogging FB groups like Tracey Fobes one here to connect with other bloggers.

These tips will help you sell more online from SEO

Other tips or tools:

As you can see Debbie has a lot of wisdom when it comes to SEO.

She even has 2 books to help beginners or anyone looking to up their SEO game:

  • Easy on page SEO ($37)
  • Easy backlinks for SEO ($67)

If you want to learn more about SEO I would highly recommend taking her free SEO course and checking out this wealth of knowledge here

What is Immunotec?

Immunotec is a health and wellness Multi-Level-Marketing company.

Their main product is Immunocal, which helps to increase an antioxidant called “glutathione” in the body and provide a full functioning immune system.

The company also offers every day people the opportunity to make money from home by promoting the products and recruiting more people into the company.

You can learn more about Immunotec in the 3-minute video below…

[video_page_section type=”youtube” position=”default” image=”” btn=”light” heading=”” subheading=”” cta=”” video_width=”1080″ hide_related=”false” hide_logo=”false” hide_controls=”false” hide_title=”false” hide_fullscreen=”false”]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtfS7p4tIt4[/video_page_section]

So it’s starting to sound like a pretty interesting opportunity right?

But you probably know the video above is just a “promotional video”. So if you’re like me you’re probably asking yourself…

Is Immunotec a pyramid scheme?

Technically speaking… no Immunotec is not a pyramid scheme.

It’s possible for consultants to earn an income from selling the products, they do not have to recruit more people into the company to earn money.

However, to earn a full-time income these consultants will really need to recruit more consultants into their “downline”.

What is a pyramid scheme?

A pyramid scheme is when a company recruits members by promising them payment for recruiting more members.

An outright pyramid scheme doesn’t sell any products or services, they just help you to recruit more people into the company.

They are illegal in almost every country as the system is unsustainable and impossible for everyone to earn money as you can see in the diagram below…

Diagram from Wikipedia

Despite these schemes becoming less common, you can still find some MLM companies that really operate as a “pyramid scheme in disguise”.

Some MLM’s use a product or service to disguise the fact that it’s really just a company that rewards people to recruit more people into the company.

We’ll look into this later in this Immunotec review, but for now, you can educate yourself a bit more on this with the 5-minute video below…

[video_page_section type=”youtube” position=”default” image=”” btn=”light” heading=”” subheading=”” cta=”” video_width=”1080″ hide_related=”true” hide_logo=”true” hide_controls=”true” hide_title=”true” hide_fullscreen=”true”]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBGfHk91Vrk[/video_page_section]

Watch it on x2 speed if you are in a hurry!

How does Immunotec work?

Immunotec provides “Immunocal” health packs that help people to increase their glutathione levels and immune system.

They save thousands of marketing dollars every month by offering “consultants” commission for selling these products.

It’s kind of like a “win-win” in theory…

Immunotec saves money…

Everyday people have the chance to work from home and be their own boss.

So what are the products on offer at Immunotec?

Immunotec products

Immunotec appears to have significantly reduced the number of products they offer as a company.

It seems like at one stage they offered skincare products such as moisturiser with Immunocal in plus toothpaste, shakes and eye cream.

However now, the only products on offer on their website are:

  • Immunocal (or Immunocal platinum)
  • Plastic shaker cups

Immunocal is a 10-gram sachet of whey protein isolate, which can help the immune system.

Watch the 5-minute video below to learn more about Immunocal and the research behind it…

[video_page_section type=”youtube” position=”default” image=”” btn=”light” heading=”” subheading=”” cta=”” video_width=”1080″ hide_related=”false” hide_logo=”false” hide_controls=”false” hide_title=”false” hide_fullscreen=”false”]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3di2a39VYU&feature=emb_logo[/video_page_section]

How to make money with Immunotec

Just like most MLM companies, there are 2 main ways to earn money with Immunotec:

  1. Make a commission from sales of the products
  2. Recruit more people into the company to earn bonuses and commission from their sales

Before we dig into the confusing compensation plan…

How much does it cost to join Immunotec?

Again the price to join seems to have changed a bit from research I have done compared to the past (I guess the amount of products on offer changes things).

It costs £24 ($32) to get the consultant welcome kit.

That comes with the following items:

But to be successful in any MLM company you really need to try the products. So you can get a reduced starter pack for £175 ($230), which comes with:

  • 2 boxes of Immonocal
  • 1 box of Immunocal Platinum
  • 3 shaker cups

But it doesn’t end there…

Monthly hidden costs

To earn the residual income and the bonuses from your downline (the main way to make a good monthly income in Immunotec) you need to “stay active”.

An active consultant needs to personally purchase something every month…

The cheapest item on offer is the shaker cups. So unless you want a load of plastic shakers you are going to need to purchase Immunocal each month.

This means spending £90 (with 30% off is £63 aka $83) each month.

For your first year that’s a total spend of:

  • $32
  • $230
  • $83 x 12

Minimum total cost for year 1 = $1,290

Immunotec compensation plan

For some reason, MLM companies like to make their compensation plans harder to understand than running a marathon without any legs.

But just remember all you need to know is there are 2 ways to make money:

  • Sell Immunocal
  • Recruit people

The compensation plan claims there are 7 ways to earn money:

  1. Customer Retail Profit (30%)
  2. Customer AutoShip Profit (your consultant price minus their discounted autoship price… you make around 5% commission)
  3. Business Builder Bonus (5-20% bonus of CV for recruits sales in the same month you recruit them)
  4. Customer Volume Bonus (5-20% bonus of CV of your first level customers)
  5. Residual Commissions (see chart below)
  6. Moving Up and Accelerated Bonuses ($200-$10,000 bonus for “promotions”)
  7. Sponsor Moving Up and Accelerated Bonuses ($200-$10,000 bonus for your downline’s promotions)

But do you notice these 7 ways fall under the 2 ways I said?

If you want to see this more visually you can watch the last 3-minutes of this video…

[video_page_section type=”youtube” position=”default” image=”” btn=”light” heading=”” subheading=”” cta=”” video_width=”1080″ hide_related=”false” hide_logo=”false” hide_controls=”false” hide_title=”false” hide_fullscreen=”false”]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sy8nygnlrnE&t=205s[/video_page_section]

Or you can see the full 8-page compensation plan here.

Now I can almost hear your mind thinking…

Is Immunotec a scam?

No, Immunotec is not a scam.

They offer some legit products and pay consultants for selling and recruiting people.

There’s nothing illegal about this company.

However, just because an opportunity to make money from home is legitimate it doesn’t mean it will suit you.

The rest of this Immunotec review will help you make an informed decision if it’s right for you or not.

Just to be fully transparent with you, I am not a distributor myself and I do not endorse it in any way.

I have researched the website, testimonials and information on the Internet to get to the bottom of what this program genuinely does. This is because I have been burnt from programs just like this in the past and I want to prevent others from making the same mistakes. Immunotec: The good

Here are some of the things I like about Immunotec…

Key Terms:

  • Black Hat Methods – Using lies and unethical methods to make someone buy something
  • White Hat Methods – Being honest and genuine to help people make informed decisions about purchases
  • Pyramid Scheme – recruits members via a promise for payment from referring others to the service rather than providing a product
  • Affiliate Marketing- Connecting a customer to a product they are looking for and receiving a commission for doing so
  • Red Flag – A warning sign

#1 Running for over 20 years

It’s very unlikely Immunotec is an outright scam or pyramid scheme if it’s lasted for over 20 years in business.

Immunotec scam 1996

There are organisations such as the Federal Trade Commission who check up on these types of companies.

So it’s possible for an organisation to slip under the radar for a few years, but 20+ years shows it must be legitimate.

#2 BBB accredited

Another great sign that Immunotec is not a scam.

The Better Business Bureau has accredited the company since 2015 and doesn’t have any customer complaints, which suggests the customers are pretty happy with the products and customer service.

Immunotec scam BBB

Another good sign for the company!

#3 Free website provided

The consultants are provided with a free website to promote the products (similar to the screenshot below…)

Immunotec scam website

Using internet marketing is so important to run any business today but it’s especially important for MLM companies.

The good news is that if you can “drive traffic” to this website you could make sales when you sleep.

The bad news is this is a duplicated website for every consultant so you won’t be able to have control of the website and get “free traffic” from sources such as Google (this is called SEO aka search engine optimisation)

Immunotec: The not so good

Here are some of the bad parts of Immunotec that you should be aware of before diving in…

#1 Expensive products- “pyramid scheme in disguise” warning

This is always the first thing I check with any MLM company.

Did you know that expensive products in comparison to other items on the market is a sign the company may be a “pyramid scheme in disguise”?

The reason is simple…

Nobody in their right mind would buy these expensive products compared to cheaper options.

Immunotec products scam

Immunocal platinum costs $5.47 per sachet.

Amazon’s Glutathione tablets cost between $0.32- $0.88 per tablet.

Very highly rated Whey Protein Isolate costs $1 per serving.

That is between a 450%-1,700% mark up for similar products!

However, when MLM companies have a requirement for consultants to buy products to stay active (like Immunotec does) then they have created repeat customers…

And there are more incentives for these consultants to recruit more consultants rather than sell the products!

Just check out the compensation plan again.

#2 MLM’S success rate (1%)

The FTC released a study on over 350 MLM companies.

They found that 99% of MLM recruits lose money!

MLM FTC Fact Stat

Once you understand the monthly requirements to stay active and the expensive costs of many MLM’s you can start to understand how this is possible.

But I know what you’re thinking… maybe Immunotec is different…

#3 Less than 1% earn over $2,500 a month

Here is the Immunotec Income Disclosure Statement they published in 2016…

Immunotec income disclaimer scam

Only 2.5% of consultants made more than $1,000 a month on average. And this is not taking into consideration any of their expenses to run the business such as paying for advertising or additional training or the hidden monthly fees.

It just shows that the income potential is not really a “work from home and quit your job” income.

#4 No real training on internet marketing

The most successful MLM consultants learn how to use the internet to sell for them 24/7/365.

However, Immunotec doesn’t provide any real marketing training other than the generic… “be active on social media about the great sachets”.

In 2018 I had no idea how to create an online business. But the skills I have learnt over the past year has helped me to learn how to use the internet to get visitors for FREE to this website that you are reading right now…

Talk about passive!

Do you notice the rate of growth too?

#5 Not in the early momentum phase

Something else I look for in MLM companies is if they are in the “early momentum” phase.

It’s no secret that the most successful consultants in MLM companies “got in early” and helped the company grow.

As you can see from Google trends, Immunotec is not in this stage anymore.

There are certain MLM’s such as Farmasi, that are growing and offer a better alternative if you really do want to take part in an MLM company.

My opinion – Immunotec

If you like the Immunocal products and want to use them every month personally then it may be worth becoming a consultant to get the 30% discount.

Plus you could make a bit of pocket money if you have some friends that want to look after their immune system.

But, my overall opinion of Immunotec could be summed up in 2 words…

If you’re looking for an opportunity to work from home and quit your full-time job, this really isn’t one for you.

But is there another way?

Is there a different opportunity?

I’m not a massive fan of MLM companies. It’s not because they are illegal or not profitable, I know some people that do great from them.

It’s because of the restrictions and the expensive costs involved and the simple fact that you need to sell to family and friends.

I stumbled across the affiliate marketing business model in 2018 and it immediately made more sense to me because:

  • You don’t need to recruit anyone
  • You have complete control to promote any products you like and build a scalable business
  • It’s free to get started

In fact, with affiliate marketing…

I actually quit my full-time job by the end of 2019 and my income only goes up every month.

It also means I can work on my business from anywhere in the world…
