What is Pet Protector?

Pet Protector is a Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) company that sells “discs” that your pets can wear around their collar to protect them from external parasites.

It claims to have a one-of-a-kind product that can provide everyday people with a business opportunity to be able to work from home.

You can learn more about the company in the 3-minute video below…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjhZHEHMW_A&list=PLiHCixx9soum_uwxxKO1f3Nw1mAGmbBd-&index=2&t=0s

Simply put, it’s possible to make money by promoting these discs and recruiting more people into the MLM company.

Now I can almost hear your mind asking…

Is Pet Protector a pyramid scheme?

Technically no.

Pet Protector is not a pyramid scheme because it’s possible for distributors to earn money by selling the discs without recruiting anyone else into the company.

However, in reality, if you’re interested in working from home full time, you will need to recruit more distributors into the company.

What is a pyramid scheme?

A pyramid scheme is when a company recruits members by promising them payment for recruiting more members.

Technically speaking they do not sell any products or services.

This is illegal in most countries because it is completely unsustainable. Just see the diagram below…

Diagram from Wikipedia

Outright pyramid schemes are disappearing but it is still very common to find pyramid schemes in disguise.

This is where a company has a product that they claim to sell but in reality, the most successful distributors are just recruits for the company.

The short video below explains how to spot a pyramid scheme and a scam…

Watch it on x2 speed if you are in a hurry!

More importantly than this, let’s work out…

How does Pet Protector work?

Pet Protector offers its signature product “the disc”.

But the company doesn’t have to spend thousands of dollars every month on marketing like many traditional businesses.

They rely on their “distributors” to market the discs for them.

In return, they offer a commission to any products these distributors sell.

Pet Protector products

There’s really only 1 product:

  • The Pet Protector disc- $73.40

The science behind it is that it uses scalar and electromagnetic waves to create a “protective field” around the pets that wear the discs on a collar.

Pet Protector claims to:

  • Repel fleas and ticks
  • Improve blood circulation
  • Raise energy levels
  • Boost immune system

You can see more about this in the 4-minute video below.

https://youtu.be/cidY7i15BW4?t=93

Also, note that there are loads of other MLMs that sell similar products:

Now, you’re probably wondering…

But does Pet Protector work?

This is a hard one to say for certain.

After some digging, it became clear that this is a very similar product to CatanDogs.

And as you will find out later in this Pet Protector review, there is a lot of speculation around the legitimacy of these discs and particularly CatanDogs.

Personally, I found the end of this video pretty useful…

https://youtu.be/DDzcIe1p3kM?list=PLiHCixx9soum_uwxxKO1f3Nw1mAGmbBd-&t=309

As you can see there is definitely some magnetic field around the pet protector disc and you can test this on your phone yourself.

In reality, you won’t know if these discs work for your pets until you try them yourself. There are so many different opinions (just see Amazon reviews) about them and the science seems debatable.

I have not personally tried the discs so I cannot say for sure either way.

How to make money with Pet Protector

Ah, the moment you’ve been waiting for!

There are 2 main ways that any MLM company can help you to make money and Pet Protectors is no different:

  1. Earn a commission from sales of the products
  2. Get bonuses from the sales of the people you recruit make

Before we look into the compensation plan in more detail you’re probably wondering…

How much does it cost to join Pet Protector?

There are 4 different pricing options for you to become a Pet Protector distributor…

1. Free- 7-day trial

This free trial gives you access to your unique webpage and the advertising system. You will get to see what the “back office” is like to test the system.

2. $73.40- Affiliate Distributor

This comes with the benefits you can see below and allows you to earn a maximum of $2,000 commission.

3. $544.70- Manager

Not only do you get 10 discs included but also 100 targeted website visitors to your website.

4. $1,987- Senior Manager

This package allows you to earn unlimited monthly commission and sends you 500 website visitors as well as 41 pet protectors.

Staying active costs

There are also some monthly costs you will need to account for if you want to “stay active’ as a distributor.

You can do this in 3 ways:

  1. Purchase one or more disc each month ($51.38-$62.39 depending on your discount level)
  2. Buy a leads pack- $48 for 50 clicks
  3. Subscribe to the monthly back-office tools- $19.95 per month

Here is why you need to make sure you stay active each month…

  • If you become inactive for one month you are suspended and lose your commissions you make.
  • If you are inactive for 2 months your membership is terminated and you will need to start all over again.

This is a bit of a red flag for me as this is forcing distributors to stay active every month and suggests the company actually makes most of its money from the distributors rather than sales of products to legit customers.

Pet Protector compensation plan

Remember there are actually only 2 ways you can earn money as a Pet Protector distributor:

  1. Earn commissions on sales of products
  2. Recruit more members to get bonuses and commissions of their sales

However, according to the Pet Protector compensation plan, there are 4 ways to make money:

  1. Retail bonus (15%-30% commission)
  2. Welcome bonus ($50 if you recruit 2 other people in your first 10 days)
  3. Commission on startup packages (between $10-$100 on any start-up package you sell)
  4. Volume bonus (5%, 7% or 10% commission from your “weaker downline branch”)

Start-Up Package Retail Bonus
Representative 15%
Manager 25%
Senior Manager 30%

Do you notice that all 4 methods fall under the main 2 ways to make money?

This video seems to be a bit outdated but it explains the general overview of the compensation plan visually…

You can find the full 25-page slide show of the compensation plan here.

Is Pet Protector a scam?

No Pet Protector is not a scam.

It sells a product that some people are happy with and offers people the opportunity to make money.

However, it doesn’t mean that this opportunity is right for you.

The rest of this Pet Protector review will help you make an informed decision about the company and whether it is right for you.

Just to be fully transparent with you, I am not a distributor myself and I do not endorse it in any way.

I have researched the website, testimonials and information on the Internet to get to the bottom of what this program genuinely does. This is because I have been burnt from programs just like this in the past and I want to prevent others from making the same mistakes. Pet Protector: The good

Here are some of the things I like about Pet Protector

Key Terms:

  • Black Hat Methods – Using lies and unethical methods to make someone buy something
  • White Hat Methods – Being honest and genuine to help people make informed decisions about purchases
  • Pyramid Scheme – recruits members via a promise for payment from referring others to the service rather than providing a product
  • Affiliate Marketing- Connecting a customer to a product they are looking for and receiving a commission for doing so
  • Red Flag – A warning sign

#1 If the discs work then it could be an amazing product

I did quite a bit of research into the disc.

Remember, the science behind it is that it uses electromagnetic waves to create a “protective field” around the pets that wear the discs on a collar.

I found this Facebook page to be quite helpful and at first glance pretty honest…

Pet Protector review

This person had realised that a lot of negative reviews were from customers who hadn’t followed the instructions and removed the existing ticks and fleas before applying the disc.

However, it’s important to take this with a pinch of salt as it ends up going on to say this person has joined the Pet Protector MLM program.

In case you were wondering… it’s almost impossible to find positive reviews from someone that is not a distributor! I tried!

#2 Start a 7-day free trial

This is always a great sign for any opportunity to make money from home.

If you can try it out for free then it shows that Pet Protector believes in their product and is much less likely to be a scam.

Pet Protector free trial

The free trial doesn’t really mean you’ll be able to effectively start promoting the disc as you won’t receive one.

It does mean you get to play around with the back office though.

This may be able to show you whether you think this is something you will be interested in or not so it’s worth joining for free if you are considering it.

#3 Website provided

The most successful MLM distributors will use the power of the internet to sell for them 24/7/365.

Pet Protector provides you with a website that you can use to help market the discs online.

Is Pet Protector a scam? Website

The great thing about these types of pre-made websites is that you can start using them instantly and you don’t need to know any technical things to get going.

The bad thing about them is that you don’t really control it and you’ll never be able to “rank on Google” for certain “keywords” (what someone types into Google).

We’ll cover that later in this Pet Protector review.

Pet Protector: The not so good

Here are some of the bad parts of Pet Protector that you should be aware of before jumping into the MLM opportunity…

#1 Do the products even work?

There has even been a study in the US National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health claiming that these types of tags are ineffective.

Pet Protector review

Obviously there is some sort of difference between these tags and the CatanDogs tags but there are also a lot of people that have left negative reviews about the Pet Protectors tags.

At the end of the day, you will have an uphill battle selling these discs as there is clearly uncertainty over whether these tags are legitimate or not.

#2 MLM’S success rate (1%)

This is the most brutal truth of all.

The FTC released a study a while ago that showed that 99% of MLM distributors lose money.

FTC MLM Fact

You can see why when there are these monthly fees to pay to “stay active” and very little training offered as to how to actually sell the products.

#3 Poor customer service & misleading tactics

Another common type of negative review found online was about poor customer support.

Product review shows that Pet Protector could be seen as a scam because they use “technicalities” to not provide a refund.

Is Pet Protector a scam? Review

As it’s only “95% effective” your dog may still pick up 5% of fleas… silly billy for thinking it should stop all fleas!

#4 Amazon sells discs for cheaper- how will you sell any?

Well, actually Amazon sells them for cheaper!

The Pet Protector website does claim that you can only be sure to get the correct product if you buy from a distributor.

But facts are facts…

Pet Protector price

Is Pet Protector a scam? Price

There’s not much reason why anyone would choose to buy the same disc for $73.40 instead of $72 on Amazon, especially considering they don’t seem to offer refunds anyway!

*Top tip- if you are looking to buy them then you can get a “10% discount” code on the Pet Protector website when you attempt to click off the page…*

#5 High cost to generate leads

So this is a novelty that I haven’t seen much from many MLM companies (and I’ve reviewed dozens!)

They actually help you “generate leads” to your website.

This just means they send people to your website either that may be interested in buying a disc or to become a distributor (you choose which one).

Is Pet Protector back office

Is Pet Protector a scam?

However, there is no guarantee these leads will come to anything. You have no control over who these leads are (they claim they have an interest in pets, but you’re just taking their word for that).

You are then just relying on their “ready-made” website to sell for you.

And 50 leads for $48 is very pricey as you’re about to find out!

#6 It will never be an online business

Here’s the hidden truth…

The ready-made website will never help you be to set up an online business.

You will be solely reliant on the company and if it disappears so will your whole business.

It is possible to create websites that bring you thousands of visitors (or “leads”) every month for free.

In mid-2018 I had absolutely no idea how to do this.

But by following a step by step training program and using the community and tools provided I’ve managed to create a quickly growing online business as you can see below…

Make Time Online Stats

This is the number of visitors I get to my website every month FOR FREE (not $48 for 50 clicks!)

And this is how real people genuinely create a passive income online.

#7 The company is not growing

One of the most worrying things for me about Pet Protectors is that it is not a growing MLM company.

You can see my full reviews for:

Youngevity also offers some pet products but has a much larger range of products on offer as well. Farmasi is a personal care and beauty MLM company that shows how quickly some MLM companies are growing.

I would only recommend joining an MLM company that is showing signs of growth otherwise it will be an uphill battle to recruit more people (and in case you haven’t realised yet… you will need to recruit more people to be successful with MLM’s)

My opinion – Pet Protector MLM

I really want to believe that the discs work.

Just by taking in the information I have about the discs I personally believe the CatanDogs discs are not legit but there is some science & proof behind the Pet Protectors discs.

Do I think this is a genuine opportunity for people to work from home full time?

via GIPHY

No.

If you have a cat or dog and you want a safe way to try and protect it from fleas then, by all means, try the disc!

If it works for you then it won’t be “selling” or recruiting others into the company. You will just be sharing your own experience and you could certainly make a bit of money in that way.

However, if you have any intention in making good money from home (even through an MLM) then you will need to learn more about internet marketing.

Is there another way to make money from home?

Yes, and many “normal” people are making a living from it.

On the podcast alone I have spoken to dozens of completely normal people that make money from affiliate marketing including:

  • Jeff and Ben (used affiliate marketing to make $240k in one month from a personal finance blog… and it’s still growing)
  • Alex Nerney (makes $20k+ each month from a health and fitness website)
  • Elna Cain (has numerous websites that use affiliate marketing including a Mommy blog)

I personally make hundreds of dollars each month from work I’ve put in the past and my websites are growing pretty quickly (see chart in #6 above).

And I am no “techie”!

Everything I have learnt has been with step-by-step training from one platform and community that I joined in September 2018.

The best thing is that it’s completely free to start.

Pet Protector MLM Review: The “MakeTimeOnline” final word

So is Pet Protector a scam?

Absolutely not.

But it may not be the best opportunity to quit your day job and work from home. If you try the disc and it works then you can recommend it to friends and make a side income from it.

Although the chances of making a full-time business from this are pretty slim!

Keep changing for the better,

Mike

  1. The pet protector is really good because my big bro has some connection with it and he has been compelling me to try them out but I just been looking for more reviews about them but I think I have read enough because this article has really set my mind on the motion to try them out.

    1. Hey Feji, I’m Glad it helped but do not expect to make a full time income from this any time soon. If the disc helps your dog then great and if you know some others sit could help then you could make some pocket money. But it will be hard work to make any good money here and you’d need to recruit a lot of people to make it successful

  2. As a pet owner (a husky names Shiro to be exact), I always want the best for my Shiro. His supplements are more expensive than mine!

Just like you said it gets expensive so I always try to find a way to lower my bills without compromising with his well beings.

Thank you so much for your review on Pet Protector. Damn it is so expensive to join is company and I still have to maintain the monthly fees? I am just going to have to pass. I would feel better if people are raving about their products but unfortunately it is not. I guess I am just gonna keep on using Amazon.

I rather start writing a blog and gain some referrals on the affiliate links than joining this MLM.

    Cheers!

    1. Spot on!

It may be worth it if your dog has fleas and seeing if it actually helps (very hard to tell if it does or not!)

If it does work you could recommend it and potentially make some pocket money if you know a lot of dog owners. But it will never create enough income to work from home

  3. Hello Mike, this absolute amazing. This seems like a very good idea. Having to protect my dog and make money doing so, it does not get any better for me. However, it is concerning that the disc has not been outrightly verified to work 100%. Truth be told, the idea is good, but I cannot be comfortable promoting a product to others if there’s  a chance it doesn’t work.

    Regards

    1. You’re right Leo, but the only way you will know is by trying it yourself (well on your dog).

You’ll never make enough money to quit your full time job from this (unless you recruit dozens of people into the company) so if you’re planning on joining, see it as a side hustle
