What is MonaVie?
MonaVie is a Multi-Level-Marketing company in the health and wellness niche that manufactures health supplements that come in the form of fruit juice powders and concentrate.
I did some research and found out that their products aren’t backed up by any official medical or scientific claims.
They aren’t even approved by any regulatory authority. Because of this, they have faced numerous issues about the legitimacy of their products, as well as that of their business practices.
In fact, the company has already been shut down back in 2014.
Feel free to view this 3-minute video about MonaVie:
Foreclosure and Jeunesse
The reason why MonaVie has been shut down was due to the many lawsuits filed against them saying that their MLM program is a pyramid scheme due to its focus on recruitment.
Aside from that, their products also received a lot of complaints from members who say that they don’t have any real health effects.
Since then, MonaVie’s MLM program along with the company has been stopped and shut down indefinitely.
Nonetheless, I found out that MonaVie is still selling their one remaining product care of Jeuness, another health and wellness MLM company.
Is MonaVie a pyramid scheme?
Yes, MonaVie is a pyramid scheme.
The company’s members cannot make money if they were not to recruit. In fact, recruitment is the focus of the company instead of selling real and effective nutritional products...
What is a pyramid scheme?
A company that is promising its members payment for recruiting people instead of selling actual products.
Most governments around the globe as it is impossible for all of the members to earn a regular income by merely recruiting members.
You can check out this Wikipedia diagram to learn why...
There might be some who make money, but they are usually extroverted members who work more than 12 hours a day just trying to recruit and convince people to join the company.
You can also see in the diagram that you are going to run out of members to recruit later on.
Here is a 5-minute video that will help you spot these so-called “pyramid schemes in disguise”:
Let's proceed and know why...
Success is rare with MonaVie
You can try, but I warn you… You are going to have a hard time achieving success in an MLM such as MonaVie!
In fact, 97.74% of Neora members are losing money. And generally speaking, around 72.5% to 99.9% of MLM members are losing money as well.
The reason for this is due to the sales quota that these MLM companies have.
What this means is that members can only stay active and earn money if they reach the required number of sold products every month.
If you can’t, then you have no choice but to just buy the products yourself. This is the reason why the majority of MLM members are losing money before recruiting a single person.
We’ll have a closer look at MonaVie’s income disclosure as we move forward through this review.
How does MonaVie Work?
MonaVie works by selling blended fruit juice products that come in powder and concentrate forms.
The firm also offers everyday people an opportunity to work from their homes by selling the company’s products and receiving bonuses and commissions.
It seems like a win-win for both the company and its members, but in reality, MonaVie is just saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in supposed marketing campaigns because it’s their members who do all the promotion and advertising.
Before concluding that this is the case, let’s dig deeper into...
MonaVie products
If you are really interested in trying out your luck in MonaVie, then we suggest you know more about their products.
It’s best you try them yourself, but if you’re a bit hesitant, then just read on because I’ll tell you everything about what they’re offering.
MonaVie, the company, might no longer be operational, but they’re still selling their only remaining product care of Jeunesse, another health and wellness MLM.
The name of the product is:
- MonaVie Active ($129.95) - A fruit juice that contains a natural blend of 19 fruits that include acai berry and glucosamine. It strengthens the immune system, gives you the needed energy to carry on with daily tasks, and makes you generally healthier.
Take note, though, that they aren’t the only company that sells this kind of product, as there are hundreds of other MLMs that sell the same stuff.
Some of the most notable ones are:
Now that you know more about what they are really selling, let’s then proceed with...
Can you make money with MonaVie?
Yes, but it’s hard. And I mean… very hard.
There are some who make money, but they’re only making minimum wage. And that’s before the company shut down in 2015!
Even their income disclosure shows that there are just very few people who make commissions...How to make money with MonaVie
There are 2 ways members made money from MonaVie before it was closed down.
These were:
- Sell products
- Recruit members
The company also showed that members can only earn through downline sales, and not from directly recruiting them.
Before knowing the compensation plan, let’s learn...
How much does it cost to join MonaVie?
It will cost you $40 to join MonaVie before. It’s not that much, I know. But that’s still not enough reason to conclude that this one’s a good choice.
Why?...
MonaVie monthly cost
You must maintain 100 PV to stay active and receive commissions. This serves as your sales quota.
You also have to spend this much in 1 year:
- $40
- $100 x $12 = $1,200
Minimum costs for year 1 = $1,240
And that’s not all of it because your costs in training, food, travel, and gas expenses aren’t yet included.
MonaVie compensation plan
MLMs such as MonaVie have hard to understand compensation plans.
But don’t you worry because I’ll do my best to simplify it so that you can understand it right away.
MonaVie offers you 5 different ways to make money as a member:
- Direct Sales - Earn 20% to 30% commission from each of your sales
- Top Retailers - Receive $2,000 bonus once you reach 250 PV
- Bulk Order - Earn $30 to $75 for bulk orders
- First Order - Earn 20% bonus once you reach your first 200 PV
- Executive Check Match Bonus - Earn $2,500 once you maintain star rank
Confusing? Yes, that’s completely normal. MLMs just love to use fancy terms and complex names so people will think that there are a lot of ways for them to earn.
When the reality is that there are just 2 things to do:
- Sell
- Recruit
Feel free to watch this 6-minute video about their compensation plan.
Or if you’d want to see the actual list, then here’s their full compensation plan for you.
Is MonaVie a scam?
Kind of. The company was shut down in 2014 and they no longer have an affiliate program.
They even received a lawsuit claiming that they are a pyramid scheme, and which they lost.
Not to mention that they’ve got numerous complaints from members saying that their products didn’t have any positive effects on their health.
The remainder of this review will give you a better understanding as to why this is the case...
Just to be fully transparent with you, I am not a distributor myself and I do not endorse it in any way.
I have researched the website, testimonials and information on the Internet to get to the bottom of what this program genuinely does. This is because I have been burnt from programs just like this in the past and I want to prevent others from making the same mistakes. What I like about MonaVie
Key Terms:
- Pyramid Scheme – recruits members via a promise for payment from recruiting others into the company rather than providing a product
- Affiliate Marketing- Connecting a customer to a product they are looking for and receiving a commission for doing so
- Red Flag - A warning sign
#1 Positive product reviews
Yes, the company might have received numerous complaints about the ineffectiveness of their products before. However, they have revamped their current product and surprisingly, they’ve got a lot of positive reviews.
Here are some of them:
But unfortunately, that’s the only good thing I can say about MonaVie...
What I don't like about MonaVie
#1 Closed
MonaVie was shut down back in 2014.
There’s no way you can join the company or even make a living out of it. What’s worse is that the company was closed because of lawsuits and complaints claiming they are a pyramid scheme in disguise.
Will it open again as a new company? That we don’t know.
But if that was to happen, I still wouldn’t give this a green light because of its history.
#2 Hidden monthly expenses
Sell $100 worth of products just to stay as an active member of MonaVie.
Well, that’s their rule… and as you can see, it’s a clear sign that there was something fishy about this company even when they were still operational.
Can’t sell $100 worth of MonaVie products every month?
Then you have no choice but to buy them yourself if you want to be an active member and receive commissions.
This is why the biggest customer base of MonaVie are its members who hope that they can earn huge stacks of cash even if they really can’t.
#3 Is MonaVie a pyramid scheme in disguise?
Knowing that you need to spend $100 monthly to stay active means that there’s only one way for you to avoid this hassle, and that’s by recruiting someone to become your downline.
Here's a diagram that gives a clearer explanation to that...
Doing this means you pass the burden to them. Recruit more members and you can earn more.
But that also means that you need to pass the burden to more people.
Yes, I know… that ain’t ethical!
#4 Only 1 in 667 members earn over $30k a year
See MonaVie’s income disclosure and you’ll notice that 95.5% of members are earning just $1,681 annually.
Meanwhile, 98.5% of them are earning an average of $2,314 every year. The final deal breaker? Their members average an expense totalling to $1,724 per year!
This just means one thing, and that only 1 in 667 members are earning more than $30,000 a year.
#5 Downward trend
MonaVie is no longer operational, but their revamped product which still bears their name is still being sold in the market.
I even compared this to Farmasi, which is a successful health MLM. You’ll then clearly see that their popularity has decreased a ton as what you can see in Google Trends…
So, what does this mean?
My opinion - MonaVie
MonaVie is already closed, but their one last remaining product is still being sold in the market.
It’s already better, but still, there’s no way you can make money from this company.
And even if they’ll come back, there’s a good chance that their business opportunity will still be trash.
So?...
The fact that MonaVie is closed due to being labeled as a pyramid scheme and with ineffective products are already red flags that this isn't the business opportunity you need.
Good thing there are other legit ways you can make real money from a legit business...
How I make passive income online
MLMs are not scams or illegal. However, I'm not a fan of them because of the restrictions to the expensive products you have to promote.
Once I learnt about affiliate marketing, I realised it's a far superior business model because:
- You can promote anything you want and truly own the business
- You never need to sell to friends and family
- It's completely free to start
In 2018 I had no idea what affiliate marketing was.
But I went from a full time PE teacher to making a passive income online within one year...
If you want to discover how I did it then check out this special video I created which explains exactly how. You can also get your free 7-day bootcamp to get started.
