Now, let me ask you this…
Do you think it’s important to spend time on something that accounts for 50% of your blog posts effectiveness?
Optimize all your Headlines for maximum results.— Thriam Digitomation (@3Mdigitomation) February 26, 2019

The best digital marketers, such as Neil Patel, have identified the main reason that bloggers should spend more time on their headline.
The rule of thumb is to spend the same amount of time on piecing your headline together as you spend writing your blog post. Are you beginning to see why the best bloggers spend so much time on their headlines?
It’s more of an art combined with some science! But since there’s no way to guarantee what people will click on, this post will focus on the science side as much as possible. There are studies that have produced some incredible stats about what people tend to click on more often.
The more you read this article the more you will begin to understand how you can use these studies to your advantage!
So what are some of these results from these headline studies?
A number in the title resonates the most with readers by far! So try to use a number in your headline in at least 50% of your blog posts.
Conductor did a study and produced the following table…
Not only do we now know that we should use a number, but it’s been proven that odd numbers get more clicks! Content Marketing Institute discovered this when they analysed 150,000 of the most successful headlines. Do not ask me why… it’s weird!!
The Conductor study also analysed the best way to use capitals in your headlines.
They looked at 3 different ways:
Sentence Case – Effortlessly Create the Best Blog Headlines
CAPITALS- EFFORTLESSLY CREATE THE BEST BLOG HEADLINES
lower case- Effortlessly create the best blog headlines
As you can see “Sentence Case” was the clear winner…
If your title gets cut off in Google then it may not have the same impact. Google cuts off headlines that are wider than 600 px wide on desktop.
Moz studied over 28,000 headlines on Google’s first page.
They found that the headlines get cut off between 42-68 characters long. The average was 57.7 characters. It’s important to note that some letters take up more space than others i.e. “w” takes up 4 times as much space as “i”.
If you’re like me you are gonna want to test that…
(Seems about right to me!)
If you want to air on the side of caution then use 45 characters max. But remember you can often use more emotional or powerful words the longer the title is, so it needs to be long enough to do two things:
@Moz Found that the title's get cut off in Google between 42-68 character count. The average was 57.7 characters, so keep your title character count below 55! @thewebmastercom https://t.co/2XueaRP7rI pic.twitter.com/Aw5rta0ZKg— Mike Beatty (@maketimeonline) March 2, 2019
The Webmaster tweeted me back on the above link. Moz found it actually increased to 70 characters in 2016 and 78 on mobile…
Moral of the story, longer headlines can be found so don’t scrimp! Make sure your message comes across in your headline and it makes sense.
If you want your readers to know what you are writing about then try to use your keyword at the start of the title.
Since readers skim headlines, you can help them to read it all by trying to use 6 words. Remember, they tend to read the first and last 3 words of a headline
Makes sense, right?
Remember the one job of your title is to get readers to click on the link. This means they want to know what it’s about! If you just write a load of descriptive words the message gets lost… so don’t overdo it!
However, a great superlative adds more emotion and can make people want to click. That’s probably why 1 superlative did the best in the Conductor study!
i.e. 11 Worst Things That Will Destroy Your Business
CoScheduler discovered this interesting fact:
Negative superlatives performed 30% better than positive ones!
Blinking human nature eh?! Why does this not surprise you?
Have you noticed that the news always seems to be depressing? This probably explains why they choose these types of headlines more often!
Make it about the reader. How are you going to help them?
Putting “you” in the title makes the reader believe you are talking to them! Buffer analysed the most highly shared titles and found that posts most shared were list posts and then “you/ your” posts (that’s why using a number was tip #1!)
Buzzstream did a study that looked into the 10 worst shared phrases in titles. Among these 10 phrases were:
The only question word that does well to create the best blog headline is “how”. i.e. How to Win Friends and Influence People.
The best 3-word phrases are…
Measured by Facebook shares:
Measured by FB engagement:
You probably already know that emotional blog titles are shared much more. CoSchedule proved posts that were shared over 1,000 times had a much higher emotional marketing value (EMV)
Here is an infographic with CoSchedule’s “power words”! Use these to create emotion…
As you continue to read this page you will discover 2 amazing headline tools that can help to see the EMV score for your headline!
People pick up on the bracketed word(s) because it is promising a certain type of content. For example:
Vb3 found that people tended to click on a bracketed headline 38% more often.
Now I can almost hear your mind thinking… “I don’t know where to start!!”
So let me put all of this information into the perfect headline formula. This formula can be used to churn out the best blog headlines as easily as burgers in McDonald’s.
Of course, you’ve heard that you should spend just as long on your headline as you do writing your posts. You probably know that you should write 25 titles to create the best blog headlines. But this formula can help you come up with emotional, precise headlines that people will want to click!
|odd number| + |superlative| + |keyword| + |additional wants|
The first thing to do is decide what your blog topic is going to be about. If you’re anything like me then you probably want to get a constant stream of free traffic to your website. Of course, you know that you will need to improve your SEO and rank on the first page of Google to be able to do this!
Therefore, the most important thing is obviously your keyword.
Unless you’d like an epic 5,000-word article, this is not the time to get into finding great keywords that people search for every month but don’t have too many competing websites for it.
Now, you have your keyword we fill in the other blanks from the formula. This is how you can find out what number you should use, what superlative would work and what the additional wants should be…
And do you begin to notice how you are creating a title that already ranks on page 1 on Google? But it doesn’t finish there!! You are going to make your title stand out and better than everyone else…
Let’s use the keyword “fat loss tips”…
1. Type in Fat Loss Tips into Google
2. The highest number on the page is The 77 Best Fat Loss Tips… So we want an odd number higher than 77 (as the highest number often gets clicked!)
3. The superlative’s on page one include “effective” and “best” (none are in more than one headline)
4. The top 4 out of 5 headlines mention “experts” or “backed by science”.
So if your keyword was “fat loss tips” a great title would be:
85 Effective Fat Loss Tips That Are Actually Evidence-Based
You have made your title stand out in 3 key ways:
Now let’s compare your headline with the top three on page one:
You decide what title you would click on here.
You may be thinking this is all a lot to take in in one go. So get your free copy of the hypnotic writing cheatsheet, which has additional headline templates, camouflaged words (that can make your ad NOT look like an ad) and another example of the perfect headline formula.
OK so that was the juicy part but there’s one last step that you MUST do if you want to make sure you’re writing the best headline possible!
These are the 2 amazing headline tools:
CoSchedule is a great tool to get an idea quickly about whether your headline would work to drive traffic and shares. It’s monkey simple to use and gives some great tips to improve the score.
Once you think you’ve settled on your headline head over to Aminstitute. This is where you can find out your headlines EMV (Emotional Marketing Value). This score is without a doubt the one you need to focus on the most as if you can get a good EMV (above 50% is pretty good!)
As you can see below, the average EMV score is almost 40 of posts that get shares of over 1,000. So if you can get the score above 50%, have an odd number in there with a great keyword you’ll definitely be doing something right!
Going back to the example above it shows why these are the top 3 rankings on Google!
Get your free headline templates and a different example of the perfect blog formula here…
So writing a headline is part art part science.
However, are you beginning to notice you can use these studies to your advantage when creating your headlines?
There’s no easy way to create the best blog headlines and it will require some time and work. But if you can use the perfect headline formula you will be on your way to making your headlines stand out like an honest man in the White House.
Keep changing for the better,
P.S. Let me know which tip you think is the most useful and please do put a comment below with your next blog headline (obviously after using the perfect headline template!)
P.P.S. One last tip… If you find a headline with a higher EMV on Aminstitute then use that in your pins (as long as it’s the same topic!)
There may be affiliate links in this article on the best ad networks for bloggers, read the full disclaimer here.
So I heard an awesome podcast the other day with a really cool study.
It was so good in fact that I’ve linked to it right here:
The biggest takeaway was that bloggers who earn $2,000-$7,500 per month make up their income with 35% of their income from Ads on average.
That is massive!! Over a third of their income comes from adverts… on average!
Once bloggers start earning more than $7,500 per month they are not so reliant on ads and spend more time focusing on affiliate marketing and creating courses.
But this made me realize… I’m almost 6 months in and I don’t have any ads!
And if you want to make more than $2,000 per month from your blog… you’re gonna need them!
Check this out…
With that, shall we?
That is the right question amigo!
You generally get paid in one of 2 ways:
Different networks will pay your website in different ways so it’s important to work out how much you will get paid i.e. Adsense will pay roughly $2 RPM. This means if you have 10,000 page views a month you will receive $20.
This begs the question…
Now, I can almost hear your mind saying…
“But adverts will make my website look tacky, is it really worth it for a few dollars?!”
You may have a point but here are 4 BIG reasons why you should use adverts ASAP:
You can also help to connect people with a great product! As long as the ads you have are related to what you write about and useful.
The main thing to remember is that if you are providing quality content consistently your readers generally won’t mind having some ads on the page. In fact, a lot of them will be happy that you are getting paid if it means you can spend more time giving them quality content!
We will look at the pros and cons of using different advertising networks in this article.
And since the majority of income from ads comes from 4 networks we will look at ONLY these 4 (note there are others):
Content must comply with Adsense policies ideally a blog over 6 months old
No offensive or negative content
10,000 page views per month
25,000 page views per month
100,000 page views per month
Must have U.S. based majority
There’s a couple of charts that pretty much sums this all up…
As you can see, over 1 in 5 bloggers making over $2k+ per month use Adsense. But only 2% of the overall income from adverts is paid from Adsense.
The point is…
When you qualify to apply to other networks, do it!!
You will just be leaving money on the table otherwise and you can easily see a 2-3 times increase in your advertising income! Plus you will provide better quality adverts that may actually help your audience.
Are you beginning to see how important it is to monetise your website with adverts?
The 5 best ad networks for bloggers are:
Bloggers starting out should use Adsense ASAP.
Once you hit the requirements of MediaVine you should change to this network as soon as possible.
If you are in the “food” or “mummy” niche you should focus on getting over 100,000 page views per month to really benefit from using AdThrive.
And do you begin to notice that content is ALWAYS king?
If you write posts that help your readers it will increase your page views per month and they will not mind putting up with a couple of ads at the side.
Keep changing for the better

Note I am not a financial advisor I am only giving my opinions on the Millionaire Teacher book review. There are also affiliate links in this article, read the full disclaimer here.
As you read every word of this review you will become amazed at how a teacher has become a millionaire!
Yes, you read that right!
Andrew Hallam really does have an extraordinary story. But the methods he used to get where he is are very ordinary.
Let me ask you this, “are you interested in earning a passive income?”
Andrew demonstrates the importance of living frugally and investing in the stock market when young. If you read this book in school you would be laughing right now.
People this book is for:
Are you beginning to see how the millionaire teacher book review could help?
Since you’re still here I’m going to assume that you want to learn more about investing in the stock market.
The methods Mr Hallam mentions in the book have been proven by numerous studies to be the BEST and easiest way to invest money to grow wealth.
If you’re like me, you want to find multiple streams of passive income.
This method is possibly the MOST passive form of income I have found to date.
As you keep reading this webpage, you will feel more and more amazed at how Andrew Hallam became a millionaire and some of the (slightly insane) things he used to do to save more money, pay off his debts and invest more.
This includes when he used to ride his bike 70 miles a day to and from work.
He did this because he could rent a basement for $350 a month out of town and avoid paying for fuel in his 20 year old $1,300 volkswagen (which he sold for $1,800 2 years later).
There is lots of great advice in here but there are 3 big lessons I want to share in this millionaire teacher book review…
Imagine what it would be like if you could use a car for a few years and be paid to use it?
Rather than leasing a car, Andrew Hallam has an EYE POPPING tip to purchasing a car!
The secret is:
Buy second-hand Japanese cars that have low mileage and are well maintained…
Japanese cars like Toyota and Nissan typically hold their value well and it’s not uncommon to be able to sell the car for more money a couple of years later.
When comparing this to leasing a car the savings are rediculous! The average savings of buying ANY second hand car is $4,856 per year for a two-car household.
That may not sound like a lot but wait for this…
If you invested $4,856 a year into an index fund that pays 7% on average for 20 years the final amount will blow… your… mind!!…
Is leasing 2 cars compared to getting 2 second hand cars worth $277,455 to you? (btw if you carried on for 40 years it would be $1,890,496!!)
Do you still think leasing that brand new Audi is a good deal?
This part of the book is more important than the air we breathe.
There are numerous reasons why Index funds are the best way to invest in the stock market but here are the main points summarised:
Let me tell you the story of Star and Lucy…
A 5 year old girl Star invested the $1.45 a day she earnt from recycling cans. She carried on investing $45 a month until she was 65 years old (a total of $32,400 invested).
Her friend Lucy, started to invest $800 a month at the age of 40 until she reached 65 (a total of $240,000).
Star’s final value was over $237,052 more than Lucy, despite Lucy investing WAY more money than Star.
QUOTE The best time to have started investing was when you were born. The second best time is today
You’re smart enought to know it’s not if but when the market crashes.
This FACT blew my mind!…
Over the course of 2005-2015 the Vanguard S&P 500 Index averaged 8% per year... This was during the financial crisis of 2008-2009!!
Now, let me ask you a personal question. Do you think you could buy more stocks if the media and the whole world were panicking about the stock market and telling you it could cause a financial melt down?
I know I would find it hard!
This is the
Fear meant that investors stopped buying when the market was “on sale”
Now imagine you keep paying in the same amount every month. It means you buy MORE units when the prices are low and less units when they are HIGHER!
e.g. Let’s say you pay in $100 a month into a Vanguard Index Fund. If the price of the index fund is $10 you can buy 10 units. If it has crashed and is now $5 you can buy 20 units (it’s on SALE!!)
It is for this reason that the Vanguard Retirement 2045 Fund returned an average of 7.39% to their investors between 2005-2015 but the average investor who had a direct debit with them earnt 9.32%.
A return of over 9% a year on average DESPITE the crash of 2008-2009!!
Just picture this for a moment…
You never have to work again because your index funds provide you with MORE money than you need to live off.
To get to this stage we need to know some numbers.
Let’s imagine you and your family can live off $50,000 a year.
Let’s also assume your index fund returns an average of 7% per year.
Here’s the maths!…
Annual expenses/ Avg. return = Total nest pot to invest
$50,000/ 0.07 = $714,285.72
Just think about it… you can spend $50,000 a year forever, without touching the initial “nest pot”!
If you’re thinking that it will be IMPOSSIBLE to get a pot of $714,285.72 then read on…
Let’s just imagine you can save $20,000 a year and invest it in the stock market.
This would take you 17 years to reach your figure of $714,285.75 or 21 years to reach $1 million.
I will go more into detail about the unltimate strategy in a future post.
For now just know that the most important thing you can do it set up an account and GET STARTED! £100 a month will make a huge difference to your future.
Pin this to come back to this article again later.
If you are thinking to yourself “to be able to retire after 17 years is not bad” then you are right.
To be honest it’s much better advice than you will get from most financial advisors.
However, this is not allowing for inflation or any changes in your lifestyle (maybe you want to have children or your kids are going to uni or you want a holiday home to retire with etc.)
Plus you NEED to save $20,000 a year… EVERY year.
Andrew Hallam is clearly an extraordinary man.
He was able to be self-disciplined and did some things that most people would not be prepared to do.
Personally, I don’t believe in focussing too much on cutting expenses as it closes our minds and you will never be able to save more money than you earn.
The focus should always be on increasing our income!
Whilst Mr Hallam may have given himself a comfortable life and a financial indenpendence from his portfolio, he has only become “rich” by becoming an entreprenuer. He has missed out this fact in his book (just like Dave Ramsey).
He makes a lot of his income from books, courses and selling HIS products.
If you want to be “Financially Independent and Retire Early” (FIRE for short) you realistically need to find a side hustle or alternative ways of MAKING money.
Now that you’re at the end of this millionaire teacher book review, you will have learnt the importance of investing in index funds and living frugally.
If you start early enough you can utilise compound interest to work for you, without having to put as much capital in yourself.
Let’s face the reality that index funds consistetly beat private investors and mutual funds due to:
If you are looking to invest in the stock market this book will provide you with a guide as to how to start and the best index funds to use (if you live in the US, UK, Australia or Singapore).
Keep changing for the better,

Everyone loves a good life hack… well this may well be the BEST!
Warren Buffet reads 500 pages a day
A few years ago some guy that I met at a property course told me a story. He said he had this ability to read over 200 books a year…
Just imagine all the things you could learn from reading 200 self-development books each year!
Of course, I was a bit suspicious so I asked him the obvious question… “How?”
NeTime stands for No Extra Time.
Rob Moore talks about it in his book “life leverage” as the best thing since the Spice Girls split up.
It is a way to use certain tasks that you do in daily life to leverage your time more efficiently and productively. Simply put you do something that you need to do and learn something new at the same time.
I am a big fan of productivity and so I thought I’d share this little humdinger with you guys!!
Mark Cuban reads for 3 hours a day
This is possibly one of the most important life hacks I have learnt in recent years.
In our busy lives, it’s so easy to sacrifice spending time exercising, reading, or doing things that we want/need to do.
NeTime is an amazing way to use your time and get double the productivity!!
You may know that it’s possible to leverage your money (get a mortgage on a rental house) or leverage other people’s experience (hire a professional to do a job for you). But I never thought it was possible to leverage your own time until a few years ago.
Bill Gates reads 50 books a year
There are certain tasks that we do every day that we pretty much do on autopilot.
Some of these tasks may be times when you can use NeTime!
It is possible to use this time to listen to audiobooks or podcasts and gain some valuable knowledge. It’s possible to learn from somebody else’s mistakes whilst doing mundane tasks.
This is exactly what the guy that I met a few years ago did and it’s exactly what I have started doing. It doesn’t take up any extra time and it helps me to listen to so many more books than I would be able to read each year.
Whilst some of these tasks may be a social time and not suitable to stick a set of headphones on I have found that so many opportunities pop up EVERY day and often when I ‘m not expecting it. For example, I am actually on a school trip right now… I drove ahead to set up the activities. I used the time in the car to listen to a few podcasts and now I have a bit of time before the students arrive.
Tom Corley studied successful people for 5 years and produced his book “Rich Habits“. His research discovered that rich people read for self-improvement and to learn. Poor people read to be entertained.
I know what you’re thinking… “I like to read to relax”… or “I just don’t have the time for it”… or “I’m too tired after a busy day at work.”
I KNOW! This is exactly what I used to say to myself.
However, choosing the right books to start with changed this for me. Starting with a book about taxes is probably a BAD place to start. Getting recommendations (click here to see my recommendations) and finding a style of writing that suits you is important… once the habit is in place it’s hard to stop!
We can continue to make excuses for our daily choices but it is proven time and again that the most successful people have good habits in place. I also have one question for you…
How much time do you spend watching TV each day?
I’m not saying you have to completely stop watching your favourite shows. I’m just asking whether you really need to channel hop and watch some random series you’ve never heard of before because you need to “relax”.
Successful people learn more in their free time.
Tony Robbins read 700 books in 7 years
Here are some top tips to make the most of NeTime:
There is one amazing tip that you can use to really make this time even more efficient…
Listen to everything on x2 speed.
The first time you do this it will just sound like a blur and be very hard to actually take anything in. But it’s amazing how quickly your brain gets used to this! Once you are used to it you will actually find it hard to listen to them at a normal speed… it sounds like they are about to fall asleep!
If you want to learn like the most successful people in the world then it is so important to leverage your time.
Using tasks to listen to books using NeTime is a great way to increase the amount of knowledge you can take in… and it literally takes up No Extra Time!
If you really want to improve your business or your life then reading or listening to books is a proven habit that will help you do this.
Keep changing for the better,

What is the capital of Tuvalu?*
Not sure… well go and work it out then come back and read some more.
I bet if you actually did that you went into Google and found the answer within seconds.
Did you see it on the Wikipedia page at the top? But if you were to scroll down you will probably see a load of random peoples websites.
These websites have got onto page 1 on a Google search because of a number of reasons:
However, the most important factor here is number 1.
If you create specific content for a keyword that fits EXACTLY you’ve got a higher chance of being ranked on page one of Google!
Google’s entire business model is built on MATCHING the right content to their users intent
Now read that again.
Now if you’re like me you’re probably thinking…
“Will many people even be typing that into Google?”
Well, does the Pope wear a funny hat?
181 people type this into Google PER MONTH! (see the screenshot above)
The fact is that the websites on page one of Google will receive regular visitors to their website every month from people typing in the keyword “what is the capital of Tuvalu”…
Now imagine you had 10 or 100 or 1,000 posts that are on the top page of Google.
Are you beginning to see how you can get free traffic?
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could find certain keywords that people search for every month and have hardly any competition from other websites?
Hence, the keywords you put onto your website’s pages you can increase the chance of receiving FREE traffic every month to your site.

Little by little you begin to see why keyword research is pretty important…

Are you still looking for the best SEO keyword research tool?
And have you noticed yet that Jaaxy can help you to find keywords that have little competition, so it’s more likely that you can reach the desired page 1 of Google?
This is what the online world calls SEO (Search Engine Optimisation). It is a method of bringing people to your website every month for free.
It’s another great way to decide on a specific niche if you’re just starting out.
If you are currently using affiliate marketing or thinking about starting to use affiliate marketing, then the best SEO keyword research tool is a must!
Here is a list of people that may use Jaaxy:
Here are the MAIN features of using Jaaxy explained:
Monthly Searches (Avg)
This is the total number of searches that the keyword produces on search engines each month.
The HIGHER this number the more people will visit your website.
So look for over 50!
If you achieve 1st-page rankings this is the estimated amount of visitors you will receive to your account.
Just think about it…
Will you receive many visitors if you do not rank on the search engines first page? (think back to the earlier example of Tuvalu, did you even consider clicking onto page 2 of the results?)
Again the HIGHER the number the better!
And do you being to notice that the monthly searches column is more important because traffic is an estimation?
Quoted Search Results (QSR)
This is the BEST indicator for you to look at.
This shows you the number of competing websites ranked on Google for the keyword.
The lower the number the more chance you have to rank on Googles page-1.
Ideally, the number should be below 100.
Keyword Quality Index (KQI)
Shows how likely it is you will reach page-one on Google.
This is a quick way to determine whether the keyword will be a good marketing campaign for you to use.
If it is green and says Great then it may be a good option
If it says normal and is orange then you should probably look for another campaign to start.
Red= don’t even bother
This is a score for the keyword based on traffic and how much competition.
If your keyword has <10 monthly searches then you will not receive any traffic (as nobody cares!)
If there are hundreds of competing websites then it’s less likely yours will feature on page 1 of a Google search!
You want this number to be HIGH and ideally over 90.
If you type in your keyword into Google it will pop up some common searches beneath.
For example, a common headline for articles starts with “how to become…”
Beneath it brings up some ideas for what people search for on Google:
If we go one step further and click on “how to become rich…” we end up with more results appearing below:
In a moment, you’ll see how the alphabet soup function in Jaaxy really saves you TIME.
Once you have your post idea you just type the letters of the alphabet one at a time to come up with hundreds of ideas that people are already searching for
For example, type in “how to become rich a…” “how to become rich b…” “how to become rich c…” etc.
If you are struggling for content ideas this is a super simple way of generating hundreds if not thousands of ideas.
Have you noticed yet that you know other people are already searching for these ideas?
The best thing about Jaaxy is that it does this all for you.
And gives you the option to then do your own research in more detail or add to your brainstorm queue so you can see these keywords together.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could put all of your ideas in one place and then compare them against each other?

So here are 2 things that you will NEED to pay for before this:
If you are just starting out and are not creating useful and engaging content already, then spending $49 a month on a Keyword Research Tool would be more silly than electing Donald Trump as the US president!
Now, let me ask you this “Would you pay for a service that provides regular visitors to your website EVERY month?”
If you would then getting the best SEO keyword research tool will help your website stand out like Shaquille O’Neil at a midgets convention!
Are you beginning to see how important the best SEO keyword research tool is?
As you read each word on this page you will see why people who upgrade their Jaaxy account say it is easily worth $99 per month to them.
Imagine what it would be like if your research on one post helps you get an extra $99 each time… hence, it pays for itself and some!
Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could get your SiteRank worked out for you and tracked?
The Pro version tracks up to 2,000 websites and the Enterprise version tracks up to 10,000 websites for a specific search.
Can you see how useful it would be to see how your website is progressing and improving over time?

If you want different results, do not do the same things.
You’ve got to wonder what you could do if you were able to receive FREE traffic so that your website can become more and more like a business instead of a job.
Keep changing for the better,

Now you may already be using affiliate marketing or you may be interested in starting. But what are the best affiliate marketing products to sell?
There are lots of different ways to do this but this blog is only going to focus on what products are the best to sell online.
I have read a lot of different self-development books. A lot of them will say something like follow your passion… or do what you love and the money will follow, or some fluffy thing around that.
Now I’m not being funny but sitting on the beach, doing water sports and watching Game Of Thrones has not made me any money yet, so I’m fairly sure this is not completely true!
Even affiliate marketing books that I think are very good such as Anik Singal’s “The Circle of Profit” suggests you can make millions of dollars from your passion. He does talk about it needing to fit certain criteria but the fact is… not all passions are profitable (If you’re looking to get started in affiliate marketing I’d highly recommend this book though!)
There have only been two authors that I think are straight talking and completely honest about this. Their books are not about affiliate marketing directly but they basically imply that if you want to scale and make a big business… it has to be online.
The point that both of these financial giants make is that when your business starts making money, you will find your passion for that business. It becomes easier to do what you need to do as it becomes profitable and you see the results.
In recent months I have found myself going around in circles… big circles that takes up a lot of time and I end back in the same place… doing nothing!
Some people have a niche that is perfect for affiliate marketing. It’s their thing and they do it all day every day and will never get bored with it. For example weight loss, bodybuilding, investing, dating advice, electronics or pets.
Some people may love to read about new nutrition advice and what methods of training are most effective to reduce fat and build muscle. They may be doing this all the time and there certainly is a big market for this online.
However, for most people, we may dabble in a bit of all of this at certain times in our life but it’s not really a “passion”.
So how to do we choose that one thing?
I’m going to show you what I did, but I’ll show you the direct route rather than what I actually did (because that was stupid!)
I mean it! This is probably 101 to the worst way to keep people reading your work but… Stop what you’re doing click this link and sign up right now (this is not an affiliate link as it’s free!)
On ClickBank, you basically get to become an affiliate for up to 75% commissions (yes you can get more than the person who created the product) on any products.
That part is very easy to do, however, the hard part is deciding the product to choose!
So all I did (eventually) is click the tabs on the left side and see which “niches” had the best variety and products that I personally would be interested in trying out.
Top tip is to click to sort by gravity (this simply means what has sold well in the last month). If you’d like to learn more click here to see what the ClickBank University can offer.
I literally just worked this one out yesterday! I’ve seen people promoting products etc. online before but didn’t really understand why or how. When you click the link you just go to Amazon and buy a product from there. Surely the person leaving the review didn’t even get any of the benefits?!
How wrong was I?
So Amazon has an affiliate website called Amazon Associates. This means you can get a commission for millions of products on Amazon. So this is why you hear some people saying follow your passion no matter what it is?
Well, maybe but the commission rate is relatively low compared to other affiliate programs. If you sell 6 or fewer items a month, your rate is 4%. You can earn up to 8.5%, but that’s achieved by selling more than 3,131 products.
So depending on what you are promoting you won’t be earning too much from it.
The other good thing about it is that even if the person who clicked your link buys something on that visit, you earn a commission. So you could refer a $10 book and they end up buying a $1,000 TV and you receive the commission on the TV.
The virtual world wins this one. People use the internet mainly for information.
Plus, Amazon Affiliates is a great way to avoid the hassle of having to post, package and deliver the physical products if there is something that you’d really like to promote.
However, if you are eventually going to be creating products it is 100% better if it is digital.
We live in the information age now so if you can create something digitally you will eventually be the one with the products on Click Bank, Udemy and Amazon.
Obviously, you won’t just be an affiliate of one product for the whole time. There will be different products and ideas you’ll have to be an affiliate of.
However, from what I understand it is better to stick to the same niche. If my next post was about the yoga retreat I did in Bali over the summer it wouldn’t really follow the niche path that I am going down with creating an income online.
This confuses your audience and can be harder to keep the website traffic up.
My wife, Sarah and I created our first blog a bit like this. It was literally anything we did or thought of that week. It has been great to get experience in the online world but if you’re being an affiliate marketer you need to have a path that you follow.
I went into more detail about Anik Singal’s five key components to making sure your niche is profitable here. I think it is very important to read these 5 steps carefully as it can affect your whole online business.
Something that I found very insightful was that if you can’t find any competition online then you must have found a golden nugget right?! The million dollar idea?
Well actually if there is no competition online, then your idea for affiliate marketing sucks! Yep, you read that right it sucks, throw it away and start again. Check Udemy, Clickbank and even Google it. If you can’t find any online courses then it won’t work online.
So to find a niche and products that sell well you need to find someone else already doing it. But on the flip side you don’t want too many otherwise how will you stand out (not so easy is it?!)
There are some very profitable and proven markets such as:
However, if you just use these words as your niche it will be too big to compete. It has to be narrowed down (or sub niched) such as weight loss for middle-aged women, or investing in property in the UK, or making money online using affiliate.
I wouldn’t say there a certain type of product that is the best, but there certainly are things to know before diving in.
If you have an idea and you can tell it’s profitable then get started.
Action is the antidote to fear.
So if you are still worried you have the wrong products to sell. Try it!
